SUMMARY
=======

The Flight Simulator 3.0 and 4.0 world contains a square flat surface area
within the following coordinates:

  North: 0 to 65536.0000
  East: 0 to 65536.0000

Page 74 of the version 4.0 "Information Manual and Flight Handbook" notes that
"The center coordinate (x=0,y=0) of the Flight Simulator world is 40 degrees
north latitude and 88 degrees 30 minutes west/east longitude, about 30 miles
southwest of Champaign, Illinois."

Note that this refers to the geographical center of the square Flight Simulator
world, not the 0-0 coordinate navigational location. That is, coordinate North
0, East 0 is not on a corner or center of the Flight Simulator map--it is
southwest of Panama.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The Flight Simulator world can be displayed using the map view. To position and
size the map, do the following:

1. Press 5 for Nav/Com, press 9 for Slew, then press ESC.

2. Press 2 for Views, then press C for Setup Windows.

3. Press 3 until the map is On.

4. Press C for Move, use the keypad arrow keys to position the map just below
the northeast coordinates in the top left corner of the screen, then press
  ENTER.

5. Press 8 for Size, press the right arrow key until the width of the map
stretches across the entire screen, and press ENTER. (Note: The height should
remain less than 1/4 of the width.)

6. Press ESC to return to the Views menu, press 3 until the Zoom displays 2000
  miles, and press ESC.

The map should now show most of North America and land on either side of the
ocean. Spin the map using Keypad 1 or 3 and the map reveals the boundaries of
the Flight Simulator world.

Assuming the plane is facing directly north, the coordinates for the following
are:

Top left corner of map: north: 49242.9999
                             east: 49243.0000

Top right corner of map: north: 49242.9999
                             east: 49242.9999

Bottom left corner of map: north: 49243.0000
                             east: 49243.0000

Bottom right corner of map: north: 49243.0000
                             east: 49242.9999

Example
-------

If the aircraft is flying/slewing directly north, the north coordinate will reach
the boundary of the world at 49242.9999. Keeping the same direction, the
aircraft will jump to the southern most point on the opposite side of the world
and the coordinate will keep increasing from 49243.0000 to 65536.0000. At this
point (65536.0000), the aircraft is somewhere southwest of Panama.

For more information on displaying, sizing, and moving the map, see pages 21-26
in the "Information Manual and Flight Handbook" version 4.0 manual.
