Aptiva - How to delete the "MonoType Sorts" Font
Applicable to: World-Wide
MonoType sorts is a "Wingdings" style font that is installed by Lotus SmartSuite. This font replaces the default font used in a number of applications, resulting in garbled text within these applications. Compton's Interactive Encyclopedia is an example of an application that was preloaded with many Aptivas, and exhibited this problem. If you do experience garbled text in an application, follow the procedure below to remove the Monotype Sorts font from your system:
1. Click "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control Panel", and then double-click the Fonts folder.
2. The Fonts folder will open. The folder contains a list of all the True Type and rasterized fonts installed on your system. Locate the icon for the Monotype Sorts font (the fonts are listed in alphabetical order).
3. Once you have located the icon, click it once to highlight it, and then hit the delete key on your keyboard. You will be asked to confirm deletion of the font, click "Yes".
4. The font will be removed from the system. Close the Fonts folder, and then close the Control Panel.
5. The applications that were previously affected by this font should appear normally the next time you open them.
Note: As noted above, Monotype sorts is a "Wingdings," or symbol type font. All the symbols included in the Monotype sorts font are mirrored in other fonts commonly installed on Aptiva systems, meaning that users will lose no functionality when removing this font.
