Aptiva - 2159 Noisy Media Console units (CD-ROM Drives)
Applicable to: World-Wide
Please be aware that vibration is normal in media console units for up to 4 minutes after initial startup. The vibration / noise can be normal up to 4 minutes after every access to the CD-ROM drive.
THIS IS NOT A DEFECT AND THE UNIT SHOULD NOT BE REPLACED FOR THIS REASON.
The CD-ROM drive is rotating at extremely high speeds. Follow these measures to reduce (and possibly eliminate) the noise:
1) Be absolutely sure that the media console unit is not laying on anything (such a stack of paper, cable, etc.) which may cause the unit to not be level and all four feet on the table.
2) Close the media console unit. This will allow the CD to rotate at 90 degrees parallel to gravity.
3) If the above does not reduce the vibration to a satisfactory level, extend the rear-two CD-ROM tabs on the CD-ROM tray. If this does not work, extend all four tabs over the CD. Noise will still be present, however after all counter-measures are used, the sound will be dramatically decreased.
