TP General - Customer upgradeable versus removable hard drives

Applicable to: World-Wide

A removable hard drive is one that can be interchanged with another hard drive on a frequent basis. For example, you can have one hard drive that you install in the morning for work and then at night you can install another hard drive for home use. Both the hard drive and the hard drive connector on the computer are capable of handling this type of activity.

A customer upgradeable hard drive on the other hand, is a hard drive that can be installed by the customer to increase their current hard disk capacity. The only time the hard drive should be removed is for basic problem determination or to upgrade your hard drive. The hard drive and the hard drive connector on the computer are not capable of handling frequent exchanges of the hard drive.

The table below lists the current ThinkPad models and whether they have customer upgradeable or removable hard drives.
