Aptiva - 2144 (SL-F) Updating the BIOS

Applicable to: World-Wide

The following article pertains to the following US model and similar models worldwide:

Desktop model: 2144-P30

BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System. The BIOS is programming that controls the basic hardware operations. This includes interactions with diskette drives, fixed disk drives, and the keyboard. It cannot be modified by the user.

The above models have what is called a FLASH BIOS. A FLASH BIOS is a BIOS that can be updated by a software update (provided by IBM ). This is opposed to having a BIOS chip that would have to be physically removed and replaced with another chip to be updated.

Currently there is a BIOS update for the above models. The filename is OPFLASH.EXE. Instructions for installation and use are in the file description. To download the BIOS update, click here - .
