Aptiva - How to perform a two mouse button reset

Applicable to: United States

A two mouse button reset has one function: -Reloads the factory default settings in the BIOS.
It has been noted due to the system rebooting after the BIOS reset that a two mouse button reset is also useful for:
1. Bypassing Rapid Resume.
2. Resetting adapter cards to default configurations.

It can be used if you have not made any important changes in the BIOS or added hardware.

The following is how to perform a Two Mouse button Reset:
1. Turn the computer off
2. Wait 10 seconds
3. Hold down both mouse buttons and then turn the computer back on
4. Keep holding the mouse buttons down until you hear the beep, then you may let go. If you have done this correctly, you will notice the computer rebooting once again ( blue IBM screen, memory count).

Note: PS/1's and Aptiva P-series machines do not reboot durring the 2 mouse button reset. The BIOS settings will still be set back to default settings.

Another way to bypass Rapid Resume is to shut down the computer and wait 30 seconds. Turn it back on and when you see the IBM screen, it should also say Rapid Resume if it is enabled, hit CTRL + ALT + DEL keys at the same time and the computer should reboot. The second time around you should not see Rapid Resume beneath the blue IBM.
