Internal TR3 1.6/3.2GB Tape Drive - "Unable to transmit data to drive" error

Problem:
Getting error "Unrecoverable error....unable to transmit data to drive: Please verify connections." Also getting error "Unable to write to the cartridge head" when attempting to reformat the cartridge.
Solutions:
Use the Add/Remove program tool in the Control Panel to remove any software (such as "Design Essential" that comes with the Canon printer) that could be "polling" or "port sharing" the parrallel port. Then reboot the PC and the tape drive should function properly.
Alternative Solution:
Instead of having to remove the conflicting software each time and reinstalling it after each backup, a switchbox can be used to get both devices to work together.
