Purpose:
The purpose of this ECA is to replace the CPU card to correct failures due to problems associated with the CPU board.

This ECA is to be implemented World Wide!
The repair policy for this ECA is "Fix On Fail".

The implementation date for this ECA is 04/01/99.

Physical check:
In order for a system to be repaired under this ECA, it must meet the following criteria:
1. Must be a machine type 2611 model 410 or 450.
2. The system must show the following symptoms when the system is powered on:
a. The battery and system LEDs are illuminated.
b. Hard drive noises can be heard briefly.
c. No video or backlight come on.
d. The system does not continue to boot.

** Conditions under which the CPU is NOT TO BE REPLACED !!!***

3. The CPU replaced must NOT have any of the following markings:
a. A white label that says 'T1'
b. A white label that says 'T2'
c. A black ink stamp that says T3x (where x will a letter such as D, E, ...)

Note:
These markings are located on the top of the CPU card on the card that is closest to the back of the system. The markings will be located close to where 'CPU B.D' is stamped on the board.

Detail:
The failed CPU and CPU that meets the above conditions should be replaced with FRU p/n 30L2534 or later. The servicer shall follow the instructions out lined in the HMM (IBM Mobile Systems Hardware Maintenance Manual P/NS10L-9952-01 "ThinkPad i Series 1400 2611) to replace the FRU described in this ECA. This section is named FRU REMOVALS AND REPLACEMENTS.

Notes:
This ECA will expire 04/31/00.
Order all FRU parts locally, and record Time & Materials to service code 33, ECA001 and OTHER OFFICE 990.

This ECA is Non-Billable as long as it is Active.

EMEA claim information:
IBM PSS CE's should record all time and parts to Service Code 33, (2611) ECA001, Other Office 990.
