Overview
The WorkPad z50 Mobile Companion combines the simplicity, long battery life, and low cost of a pocket organizer with the ease of use found in a notebook computer.
Its small size, light weight of 1.206 kg (2.66 lb), and sleek design make it ideal to carry and easy to store while traveling.

Windows CE provides the familiar Windows interface -- the built-in Microsoft pocket applications are part of the WorkPad z50. Dedicated application launching keys quickly bring up the information you use the most when away from your desk such as:

- To-do lists
- Document editing
- Web access
Use ActiveSync(TM) software to synchronize your desktop PC and WorkPad z50 device. You can then use the Microsoft(R) pocket applications with
Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT V4.0 (with Service Pack 3, or later), and Office applications.

WorkPad z50 features
LCD Display
The new WorkPad z50 model has an 8.2-inch (measured diagonally) DSTN color display for 640 x 480 resolution.
A built-in backlight enables clear viewing.
External display
With external monitor port support you can easily connect an external monitor to the WorkPad z50.

Keyboard and TrackPoint III
The enhanced keyboard is 95% the size of current standard ThinkPad notebook keyboards.
The familiar layout of a ThinkPad with application launching keys lets you quickly access system pocket applications and functions.
The TrackPoint with enhanced features incorporates Press-to-Select. Tap the TrackPoint to speed icon launches and reduce keystrokes.

High-performance NEC(R) processor at 131 MHz(2) with 16 KB I-cache, 8 KB D-cache

Storage capability can be expanded through:

Memory
The 16 MB EDO-DRAM card can be expanded to a maximum of 48 MB with an optional 32 MB card.
An internal slot is available for one extra memory module for customers who require a memory upgrade.

On-board modem
WorkPad z50 systems have an on-board modem using 33.6 Kbps (3) data and 14.4 Kbps fax functions.
Infrared (IR)
IR transceiver for wireless file and data transfer and printing. The WorkPad z50 models are compatible with the Infrared Data Association (IrDA) IR data link specification version 1.1. They support IrDA 1.1 mode from (115 Kbps speeds up to 4 Mbps).
Preinstalled software enables wireless file transfer, file synchronization, and data transfer. With the IR feature, you can exchange data with any PC, Windows CE systems, or accessories, that support the same specifications, data transfer speed, and protocol.
Options
Use the WorkPad z50 Docking kit to quickly and easily sync your WorkPad z50 with your PC or notebook computer system. The docking option includes a cradle that holds a WorkPad z50, AC adapter, and serial cable. When you "drop" the WorkPad z50 into the cradle, you have access to:
- Power source
- Connection to your PC or notebook
- WorkPad z50 Parallel Printer Cable
The WorkPad z50 printer cable has a unique WorkPad z50 serial connector at one end and a standard parallel connector at the other to directly connect the WorkPad z50 to a printer. This option is especially important to users who travel and want to print without having to find a PC to sync with.
- WorkPad z50 Hi-Capacity Battery Option with Dry Cell Kit
This option offer is the ultimate in flexible battery alternatives. The high-capacity Li-Ion provides 16 hours of operation without swapping batteries from a full charge. With the dry cell battery case you use alkaline dry cell batteries (AA) when you cannot get a power supply to recharge your WorkPad z50 battery. Together these two devices help extend the life of your batteries.

- External display (VGA and SVGA resolution) and serial ports.
- An additional 80-pin connector supports an optional WorkPad z50 cradle to connect an IBM, or compatible, PC or notebook to synchronize and transfer data.
