If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with 3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users. If not, continue with 4.0 Detailed installation instructions.

3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users
1. Any Netfinity 5500 M20 Server with a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) level less than 16A will need to be flashed. Verify that you are at the latest level of BIOS by checking the IBM Web/FTP/BBS site for Netfinity 5500 M20 BIOS Update Diskette. KQE116A was the latest level at the time that this document was published.

2. Insert the SCO UnixWare v7.0.1 Installation Diskette Volume 1 of 2 and start (boot) the server. Follow the window instructions that will guide you through the installation.

4.0 Detailed Installation Instructions
See Appendix A for additional information on using the IBM ServeRAID II Controller as your primary small computer system interface (SCSI) controller.

4.1 Setting Up the BIOS
1. Power-on the server and press F1 when the IBM logo is in the window to enter Configuration/Setup.

2. Highlight the menu option System Information and then select Product Data and press Enter. The Flash EEPROM Revision Level field contains the BIOS version. The numbers in positions 5, 6, and 7 of the level are the current BIOS level (for example, in KQE116A, the BIOS level is 16A, and the language is U.S. English).

3. Verify that you are at the latest level of BIOS by checking the IBM Web/FTP/BBS site for Netfinity 5500 M20 BIOS Update Diskette. KQE116A was the latest level at the time that this document was published.

If you determine that your BIOS does not need to be updated, continue with step 6. Otherwise, continue with the next step.

4. Download the latest level of BIOS from the following IBM Web site:

http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/searchfiles.html

a. Type:

5500 m20 bios

b. Select the latest level of BIOS to download. The image is a self-extracting, executable file (under DOS or OS/2) that will create a startable system BIOS flash diskette. The diskette image is IBM Netfinity 5500 M20 BIOS flash update diskette (37L6096.EXE) v1.00 or later.
c. Build the diskette image by running the .EXE file(under DOS or OS/2).
d. Answer Y on the last page of the licensing agreement.

5. Start (boot) with the BIOS diskette in the server and answer the question appropriately. After the BIOS update is complete, you might receive a '162 Configuration has changed' error on startup (boot). Ignore this message. Setup will start and you can continue with step 6.

Note: If you do not see the '162 Configuration has changed' message at startup (boot) time, you will need to press F1 when the IBM logo appears to enter Setup.

6. Move the highlighted selection to Start Options and press Enter.

7. Verify that the Primary Startup Sequence is set to the following (change if necessary):

First Startup Device: Diskette
Second Startup Device: Hard Disk 0
Third Startup Device: CD-ROM
Fourth Startup Device: Disabled

8. Press Esc (Escape) to return to the Configuration/Setup Utility menu.

9. If you do not have any ISA devices installed in the server, continue with step 14. Otherwise, continue with the next step.

10. Move the highlighted selection to Plug and Play and press Enter.

11. Determine the I/O, Memory, DMA, and Interrupt resources that each ISA adapter will require.

12. Select the appropriate resource type and press Enter.

13. Scroll through the selections to the value that matches the ISA Legacy Resource and use the arrow key to change the value from Available to ISA Legacy. Press Esc (Escape) to return to the Configuration/Setup Utility menu and continue with step 15.

14. Press Esc (Escape) twice to return to the Configuration/Setup Utility menu.

15. Move the highlighted selection to Exit Setup and press Enter.

16. At the Exit Setup menu, select the menu option Yes, save and exit the Setup Utility and press Enter.

4.2 Installing SCO UnixWare v7.0.1
The following procedure assumes that the ServeRAID II logical drives have already been configured.

1. Obtain the latest ServeRAID DOS Configuration diskette (33L3938.EXE) version 3.10 or later for logical drive configuration.

2. Insert the SCO UnixWare v7.0.1 Installation Diskette Volume 1 of 2 and start (boot) the server. Follow the window instructions that will guide you through the installation and note the following.

3. After the installation is complete, remove any diskettes or other media; then, press Enter to restart the server.

4. You will receive a Virus Warning after you restart the server; this is normal. Select Change is expected.

5. At the window for selecting the mouse, select PS/2-compatible Mouse .

6. It is highly recommended that CD-ROM 2 Updates be installed after the installation of UnixWare v7.0.1. Installing CD-ROM 3 Optional Services is optional.

Appendix A: Notes for ServeRAID II controller users
The following notes are applicable if the IBM ServeRAID II controller is being used, either as the startup controller or as a secondary SCSI controller.
