Network Station - Network Station Manager V2R1 Residency
Applicable to: World-Wide
International Technical Support Organization
Residency Announcement: NC-2001 Network Station Manager V2R1
Benefits to Resident: The resident will get hands-on experience with the new Network Station Manager V2R1. They will build the test environment and use each new function, developing an in-depth knowledge of the product. At the end of the project the resident will have developed skills that will enable him/her to assist customers in installing and customizing a Network Station Manager V2.1 environment using the new Network Station hardware and to assist customers in migration from the older releases and hardware to the new.
This residency begins 14 June 1999, ends 23 July 1999 (6 weeks), and requires 4 residents.
Description: This project will document the new features and functions of Network Station Manager V2R1. The focus will be on the functional enhancements such as the new desktop GUI, Java environment, browser, kiosk mode, new hardware, and new configuration files. The goal is to produce a document that will help administrators understand the changes from the previous release and all the new functions. The project should also contribute to the creation of material that will be used to produce an update to the NSM tutorial CD.
Objectives: To produce a redbook detailing the new functions and changes available with Network Station Manager V2R1.
This residency is suitable for Business Partners and IBMers.
A basic requirement for all residents is the ability to read and clearly express concepts and procedures in common English.
Resident Prerequisites: The residents should have a good understanding of the Network Station Manager product and have some experience in setting up a Network Station environment. Additional desired skills are Windows NT, AS/400, Java, browser and mail applications, TCP/IP, and NFS. Each resident does not have to have every skill. A team of residents will be built based on complementary skills.

Important: Even if you cannot be a resident now, perhaps you could provide or point us to appropriate, already-existing materials as potential input to our development efforts. We would appreciate your help in identifying any useful material that can be expanded, referenced, or included as is. If the material significantly contributes to the produced redbook, we will acknowledge your assistance and may even name the creator as a contributing author. We believe that your help will leverage the value of the already-existing materials and will result in better redbooks produced in shorter cycle times.
The ITSO Residency program has been honed over many years to provide the maximum benefit to residents and their businesses. IBM organizations, Business Partners, and customers that have provided residents report that the returning employee has gained significant new skills to enable them to support IBM's latest products. These skills can be employed either directly for services generation or indirectly in technical support of the sales effort. Furthermore, the contacts made by the resident within the development community and with the other residents are invaluable in keeping these skills up-to-date.
