TP 770E/ED - POST 161/163/173 error at bootup
Applicable to: Europe and Middle East and Africa
Symptom:
ThinkPad 770E/ED shows POST 161/163 or POST 163/173 during bootup. After resetting the date and time, the ThinkPad boots up normally.
Configuration:
The problem may be caused by the DIMM cover touching the CMOS battery holder on ThinkPad 770E/ED's. To verify this, boot the machine up as normal, then shut down. Apply pressure on the DIMM cover for 2-3 seconds, right above the CMOS battery holder. If the error occurs at next bootup, the machine is affected.
Solution:
Replace the DIMM cover (FRU P/N 05K5555) with the new FRU P/N 10L2100. There is no need to replace the CMOS battery.
