Applicable to: World-Wide
AS/400 - NSM - Release 2.x Browser Notes - II10943
About This Document
This document includes information about the IBM Network Station and IBM Network Station Manager AS/400 product. This document relates to AS/400 systems running R320, R370, R410, R420 and subsequent version and release levels, as needed. Since this document will be updated on a regular basis, it is recommended that you refer to it on a regular basis.
Notes on the Relationship Between the IBM Browser and IBM Network Station Manager License Programs
You must have the IBM Network Station Manager license program installed to use the IBM or NC Navigator Browser license programs:
5648-B10 Rel 2.x NC Navigator Browser, 40-bit
5648-B20 Rel 2.x NC Navigator Browser, 128-bit
5648-C05BR Rel 3 NC Navigator Browser, 40-bit (Included in base NSM product 5648B05.)
5648-C20 Rel 3 NC Navigator, 128-bit (Not included in the NSM base Release 3 product 5648C05.)
Refer to the following documents:
(insert) Release 3 Browser Notes (NC Navigator)
(insert) AS/400: Network Station Release 3 Reference
Note: The references to the release levels above (Rel 2.x and Rel 3) relate to the Network Station Manager release levels. NSM Release 2 and Release 2.5 are components 5733A06 and/or 5733A07. NSM Release 3 is component 5648C05. For more information on the release levels, refer to document II10405 - AS/400: Network Station Release 3 Reference.
If there comes a time when you need to delete and re-install the IBM Network Station Manager license program, you must also re-install any of the IBM and NC Navigator Browser license programs in order for them to be fully functional. We realize the inconvenience of this problem and therefore it will be resolved in a future release of the IBM Network Station Manager license program.
The NC Navigator Browser Memory Requirements
The IBM Network Station must have a minimum of 16 megabytes of memory in order to use the NC Navigator Browser. And, if you plan on using additional applications (such as the 5250 or 3270 emulators or the Java Virtual Machine) you will need to equip your Network Station with more than 16 megabytes of memory. See the manual, IBM Network Station Manager for AS/400 (SC41-0632), to review memory requirements by application.
Multiple Browser Windows
There are several methods provided for having multiple browser windows available for both the IBM and NC Navigator Browsers:
IBM Browser Set to Java Enabled
Java and Java Script should be enable for the IBM Browser. If the settings are not enabled, the Network Station may generate a panic. To access the settings from the Browser, select the Edit pulldown menu, then select the User Preferences option, then select Miscellaneous. Ensure the Enable Java and Enable JScript buttons are selected. These settings can also be manipulated from the Network Station Manager program. The Administrator can select the Internet option (using System Defaults or User Defaults), and change the IBM Browser Preferences settings to Enable Java Applets and Enable Java Script to Yes.
NSM Release 3 Browsers
The new Release 3 of NSM (Network Station Manager, product 5648C05) is discussed in document (insert), AS/400: Network Station Release 3 Reference. In NSM Release 3, there are two possible Browsers: (1) the 40-bit NC Navigator Browser (subcomponent 5648C05BR) and the 128-bit NC Navigator Browser (product 5648C20). The 40-bit NC Navigator subcomponent is included in the base NSM product (5648C05). But the 128-bit NC Navigator product is a separate installable product (5648C20). The NC Navigator product is discussed in document (insert) , Release 3 Browser Notes - NC Navigator.
