TP 600E - Windows NT fuel gauge does not launch
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
On some 600E systems with Windows NT preloaded, attempting to run the Fuel Gauge utility gives "Will not run on this system".
Configuration:
ThinkPad 600E with Windows NT 4.0 - Preload version HPUSTA0-E. (Preload version found in hidden file c:\syslevel.tp) A small number of systems were manufactured with this image, which was replaced with HPUSTB0-x. The problem is also on recovery CD's with HPUSTA0-E. This image contains a minor registry error which prevents the service from starting.
Solution:
Obtain RMVTREG.EXE from the hidden FTP directory:

2. Login with the user name thinkpad and press Enter.
3. Enter the password ftp4tpad and press Enter.
4. Then type cd /pub/private/thinkpad and press Enter.
5. Type bin and press Enter to switch to BINARY transfer mode.
6. Type get rmvtreg.exe and press Enter.
7. After the file has been downloaded, type quit and press Enter to close the FTP session.
This directory is hazed, therefore you WILL NOT be able to take a directory of this subdirectory so you MUST know the filename to download any files from this directory.
Installing RMVTREG.EXE
1. Verify that the system has the image described above, and that the Fuel Gauge does not function.
2. Start Windows NT and log on with Administrator privileges, close any open programs.
3. Run Configsafe snapshot to back up current configuration.
4. Execute RMVTREG.EXE either by clicking or running at a command prompt.
5. Reboot the system. (important)
6. The Fuel Gauge program will now work normally.
7. Since the change can be undone by Configsafe, it is a good idea to take another snapshot after applying the patch program and rebooting.
