Aptiva - ISSET_SE errors when installing new software

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
I am unable to install new software; I get a Isset_se error message. How can I install my new software?

Solution:
Most software manufacturers will recommend disabling all TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) programs when installing new software. TSR programs include the auto-protect feature of Norton AntiVirus, Lotus SuiteStart and Lotus SmartCenter. You can use the following instructions to disable and re-enable these programs:

1. Double-click the Norton AntiVirus icon on the taskbar. Select the "Disable" button to disable auto-protect. The icon will now show a red "No" symbol.

2. Select Start, Run, and insert the text "MSCONFIG". This will run the System Configuration Utility.

3. Select the "Selective Startup" option, and remove the check mark next to "Load startup group items". Select OK, and the program will prompt you to let it restart the computer.

4. When the computer is restarted, the TSR programs will not be loaded. You can then install your new software. If the installation problem remains, contact the software manufacturer for additional suggestions.

5. Once the new software is installed, you can re-enable the TSR programs. Double-click on the Norton AntiVirus icon on the taskbar. Select the "Enable" button to enable auto-protect. The icon will appear without the red "No" symbol.

6. Select Start, Run, and insert the text "MSCONFIG". Select the "Normal Startup - load all device drivers and software" option. Select OK, and the program will prompt you to restart the computer again.

7. At this point, your TSR programs are running as before, and your new software is installed.
