Network Station - FLASH: PANIC at login screen when any key is pressed

Applicable to: World-Wide

Machines affected are:

8361-110 manufactured before 3/12/99.
8362-A53/A52 manufactured before 3/15/99.

Problem:

Network Station PANICS at the login window when any key on the keyboard is pressed. There has been a few reports of this problem and it happens only to new Network Stations (out of the box). It seems to be caused by the "keyboard mapping language" being set to "N-101" on the Network Station as a factory default.

Solution (or Circumvention):

In Network Station Manger do the following:

  1. Hardware->Workstations->System Defaults
  2. Keyboard Settings:
  3. Keyboard mapping language: Select a language, ex. English (US)
  4. Update (2/11/99): Our Hardware Quality Manager has identified and corrected the problem. The problem was caused by the last test performed during manufacturing. They apparently left the N-101 setting instead of changing to IBM PS/2.
