T85D 18" TFT LCD Digital Color Monitor - Product Overview
Applicable to: World-Wide
Product Files and Drivers page.
General Information
The T85D Digital flat panel color monitor combines a bright 18.1-inch viewable image and 1280 x 1024 pixels (SXGA) addressability. Its space-saving thin-edge design and additional features offer many benefits:
- A 359.0-mm x 287.2-mm viewable area offers a crystal clear digital image
- A detachable, tilt/swivel base that can be replaced by third-party accessories that comply with VESA FPMPMI Standard (Flat Panel Monitor Physical Mounting Interface)
- Limits emissions below the new MPR-3A levels (equivalent to TCO95)
- Complies with ENERGY STAR* and NUTEK requirements using its VESA DPMS interface
The T85D Digital flat panel color monitors require a digital graphics controller in your system. This controller must adhere to the Industry Standard VESA Plug & Display (P&D-D) Interface. Neither of these models include a P&D adapter. AGP and/or PCI P&D-D Adapters may be purchased from IBM or from Third-Party OEM suppliers. Information concerning the IBM adapters is below. The T85D attaches to the PC via the new Industry Standard VESA P&D-Digital Interface. Features include:
- Flicker-free, crystal clear digital image with 1280 x 1024 pixels (SXGA) addressability, wide viewing angle and low reflectivity
- Smaller footprint than the equivalent CRT-based monitor
- A P&D-Digital Interface.
- VESA DDC2B Plug and Play capability for ease of setup (System hardware and software dependent).

Acoustics:
Declared acoustical noise emissions LWAD = 4.5 Bels or less. The noise emission level stated is the declared (upper limit) A-weighted sound power level, in Bels, for a random sample of monitors. All measurements are made in accordance with ANSI S12.10 and reported in conformance with ISO 9296.
Emissions:
All models meet the emission category A requirements of Swedish Standard SS-436-14-90 (MPR-3) in addition to those of MPR-2. All models meet the Swedish Board for Technical Accreditation (SWEDAC) emission guidelines contained in MPR 1990:10 when tested using the MPR 1990:08 test method.
The monitors also meet the TCO95 Environmental Label from the Swedish Confederation of Professional Employees (TCO), and the emission, power management, electrical safety and environmental requirements of the TCO95 Environmental Label.
Ergonomics:
Compliance to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9241 Part 3 and Part 8 for improved image quality and ergonomics is provided when the monitor forms part of an ISO-compliant system.

Hardware Requirements:
Monitors require to be attached to a system that supports the VESA P&D-Digital interface. The system must have one of the following:
- a mother board with P&D-A/D or P&D-D capability embeded
- a PCI P&D-A/D or P&D-D Adapter
- a AGP ATX P&D-A/D or P&D-D Adapter
- a AGP NLX P&D-A/D or P&D-D Adapter
One of the following suitable AGP & PCI P&D-Adapter can be purchased from IBM:
- AGP P&D-Digital Adapter, marketing part number 10L7129. This card supports both ATX and NLX form factor system units (Dealer must fit appropriate face plate).
- PCI P&D-Digital Adapter, marketing part number 10L7128. Under Windows 98 & NT 4.0, desktops can be displayed across 4 monitors by plugging either 4 P&D-Digital PCI Adapters or 1 AGP & 3 PCI Adapters into a system unit.
National Language Support for Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe/Middle East/Africa, Latin America is a function of the graphic adapter in the system unit and the application or support software.
Compatibility: The T85D color monitor is compatible with VESA P&D-Digital Standard.
Limitations:
- Supported display modes are a function of the attaching system unit, its operating system, application software and driver/BIOS support. The full range of display modes available with these monitors may not be available or supported with all combinations of system units, graphics adapter, operating systems, and application software.
- The number of colors shown in any display mode is not defined solely by the monitor, but depends also upon the capabilities of the video adapter in the system unit, the Operating System and the Application. The AGP and PCI P&D-Digital Adapters that are available from "Options by IBM" have 8MB of Video RAM which enables up to 16.7 million colors at 1280 x 1024 pixels, when used with Windows 95 , 98 and NT 4.0.
- The T85D provides FCC class B - residential installation - compliance in all display modes when connected to the AGP or PCI P&D-Digital Adapter card available from "Options by IBM".
- The T85D Monitor does not provide legacy image expansion capability. Legacy image expansion may be a function provided by the P&D-Digital Adapter. However, it should be noted that the P&D-D Adapters from "Options by IBM" provide expansion in SVGA games or DirectX applications. All other modes are centered but not expanded.
- It may be necessary to plug an additional 8MB of SDRAM into the memory socket on the P&D-Digital adapter card to provide improved performance and color depth. 8MB SDRAM can be purchased from Retailer or from Matrox.
- Implementation of monitor power management follows the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS) standard. This standard must also be implemented in the attaching system unit hardware and software for monitor power management to be effective. The system implementation must provide user-adjustable, power-down delay periods. The monitor power management function is invoked only after appropriate signals are received from an attached system unit or video adapter.
- Implementation of monitor Plug and Play follows the VESA Display Data Channel (DDC) 2B standard. This standard must also be implemented in the attaching system unit hardware and software for monitor Plug and Play to be effective.
- Certain functions require the system unit to be similarly configured, so all monitor functions may not be enabled when attached to a particular system unit.
Cable Orders:
A 1.8 m power cord appropriate to the country will be supplied with the unit.
Cable Options:
Longer P&D-Digital video cables may be available from third-parties. Check IBM Web Site at http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/accessories for latest information.
Document Note(s):
- The symbol * is used to denote that the information is currently unavailable for this product.
