TP 600,770 - How to enable the SCSI controller in SelectaDock III under Windows NT

Applicable to: World-Wide

Symptom:
When the ThinkPad is docked into the SelectaDock III, the SCSI controller is not recognized.

Configuration:
ThinkPad 600 (2645, 2646) or 770 (9548, 9549) running Windows NT

Solution:
Follow the steps outlined below to setup the SCSI controller.

  1. Create a new Hardware Profile while not docked in the docking station. To do so, click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware Profiles. Next, highlight Original Configuration and then click on Copy and rename it to Dock1 and then click on OK.
  2. Shutdown the computer.
  3. Dock the ThinkPad into the SelectaDock III and power on the ThinkPad.
  4. When prompted, select the Dock1 configuration.
  5. After Windows NT has finished loading, click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> SCSI Adapters -> Driver -> Add.
  6. Click on Add and then select Adaptec as the manufacturer. For SCSI Adapter, select Adaptec AHA-294X / AHA-394X or AIC-78XX PCI SCSI Controller and click on OK.
  7. When prompted for driver location, change it to c:\i386 and then click on OK. When prompted restart the computer.

To avoid error messages in the event viewer when booting the original configuration click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Devices. Then click on AIC78XX and then click on Hardware Profiles, highlight Original Configuration and click on Disable and then restart the system.

Additional information:
Since Windows NT is not a Plug & Play operating system, this is a normal.
