- External connections
Internal Connections
- A 2 drop (3 connector) 68 pin SCSI cable is pre-installed.
- One end is attached to the system board and the other to the drive bay backplane.
- The middle connector is available for future tape media expansion.

Tape media installation
Tape media bay rail location
- The media bay rails are stored in the bottom front of the server.
Media bracket location
- Internal drive bays use SCSI ID's 0-4 preset on the backplane. Use SCSI ID 6 for Tape Media device.
- 8-bit media devices may require a 50 pin (female) to 68 pin (female) adapter (p/n 32G3925). See Netfinity 5000 - Tape drive option P/Ns and FRUs.
- Connect the tape drive to the middle cable connector.
- Verify that there are no bent pins and that the cable connector and adapter are firmly connected.
Center connector
Adding a ServeRAID adapter:
- Internal hot-swap drives can be connected to an optional ServeRAID controller card.
- Remove the cable from the system board by light pressure on the top of the clips and connect it to the ServeRAID controller card.
- The middle cable is left unconnected.
- Note: Do not use PCI slot 5 for ServeRAID.
Male planar board connector and clip action
- If a ServeRAID card and a tape media device are added, connect the tape media device to the system board with a separate 68 pin cable with a 16 bit terminator on the last connector.
- IBM Options Netfinity Two-Drop Internal SCSI Cable part number: 36L9636 is the recommended 3-connector 68 pin cable with an integrated 16 bit terminator.
Female planar board connector
Internal backplane connection
To access the drive bay backplane, press the fan clip towards the rear of the system and pull the fan toward the open side.
Fan release clip
- The third internal connector is found behind the fan.
- Verify cable connection to the backplane.
- The backplane provides SCSI 16 bit termination.

External connections:
- The external integrated 68 pin (female) SCSI connection is next to the printer port.
External connection
- External cables are available from Options by IBM. See Netfinity 5000 - Cable option P/Ns and FRUs.
