Network Station - FLASH: Support for NSM on SCO

Applicable to: World-Wide

Support for NSM on SCO

SCO's latest version of UnixWare and OpenServer have NSM embedded within them. As the SCO Press Release below indicates, customers will need to work directly with the SCO support teams to resolve issues they may encounter with implementing this solution, with the exception of hardware support. SCO offers various on line, as well as remote support options for customers to select from.

Integrated Support for IBM's Network Station Manager in SCO Operating Systems Paves Way for Volume Network Computer Deployments

SANTA CRUZ, CA (22 Jun, 1998) - SCO (NASDAQ:SCOC) the signing of an agreement with IBM to deliver support for IBM's Network Station Manager (NSM), the industry-leading network computer management software, in industry-leading SCO operating systems.

Under the agreement, IBM will support SCO in testing and distributing IBM's NSM management and client boot software on SCO UnixWare and SCO OpenServer operating systems, beginning the second half of 1998. The NSM components will be delivered free-of-charge and integrated as part of the SCO operating systems. SCO will provide support for IBM's complete range of network computers (NCs), including the Network Stations Series 100, Series 300 and Series 1000. Today's announcement is designed to speed the migration to network computing and help customers slash the costs of application deployment.

"Customers need an easy migration from the character-based terminal world to the server-centric, graphical Web-based world," said Ray Anderson, SCO's senior vice president, Marketing. "Today, there are businesses with millions of character-based terminals waiting to benefit from network computing. This new agreement with IBM helps those businesses get to network computing today without sacrificing their current investment."

The NSM management and client boot software provide seamless integration of SCO operating systems with any IBM NSM client. These clients can be booted and managed centrally without the need for individual software installs. Businesses in need of access to all types of applications can bypass the client/server architecture in favor of an open, network computing solution with SCO and IBM.

"This agreement builds upon the existing relationship between SCO and IBM's Netfinity servers," said Howie Hunger, director of channels and marketing for IBM's Network Computer Division. "Use of Network Station Manager by SCO will offer its customers with increased levels of system management, while at the same time, offering the ability to customize clients for end users' preferences."
