Aptiva - Setting keyboard to use Belgian French in Windows 95/98 DOS mode
Applicable to: Belgium
Description:
Windows 95/98 DOS mode does not support the Belgian French keyboard layout.
Models Affected:
All Belgian French models.
Explanation:
The preloaded autoexec.bat and config.sys files do not contain the necessary lines to activate Belgian French keyboard support.
Workaround:
1. Click Start -> Run.
2. Enter sysedit.
3. Click OK.
4. Select the autoexec.bat window.
5. Add the following lines:
MODE CON CODEPAGE PREPARE=((850) C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EGA.CPI)
MODE CON CODEPAGE SELECT=850
KEYB BE,,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\KEYBOARD.SYS
6. Select the config.sys window.
7. Add the following line:
COUNTRY=032,850,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\COUNTRY.SYS
8. Click File -> Save.
9. Exit the System Configuration Editor.
10. Shutdown and Restart the system. The Belgian French keyboard layout will now work in DOS mode.
The lines which were added to autoexec.bat may also be added to the c:\windows\dosstart.bat file, which would load the commands when you restart in MS-DOS mode from Windows.
