Servers - Stop SSA Event Logger before host software install

Abstract: Stop SSA Event Logger before host software install.
Symptom:
When installing host software from the CD contained in the Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter option kit (option 09L2123 or 7133 Feature 4040) onto an existing SSA installation, the installation fails with a "File Copy Error".
Note: New installations are unaffected.

NOS affected:
The system's diagnostics pass.
The system is configured with any version previous to 1.20 of the PC SSA Event Logger Service Utility.
The CD-ROM supplied with the initial option kit package (install package 1.07, from Option kit 09L2123 or 7133 Feature 4040) for the Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter is affected.
Fix:
- This behavior will be corrected in a future EC to the option kit.
- The behavior is already corrected in the web-based version 1.07 of the host software installer (Event Logger version 1.30), which is available from the following URL: http://www.hursley.ibm.com/ ssa/pcserver
Select the appropriate adapter type(s).
Workaround:
Prior to installing, check for the latest host software and adapter firmware at the following URL:
http://www.hursley.ibm.com/ ssa/pcserver
Advanced SerialRAID/X adapter firmware level 2100 (or later) is mandatory in all cases. Update all Advanced SerialRAID/X adapters to this version prior to use.
If installation will be performed with the initial option kit CD-ROM; using the Services control panel, stop the PC SSA Event Logger Service prior to running "SETUP" to install the new host software package.
Details:
When using the initial option kit CD-ROM media to install host software for the Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter (Option p/n09L2123 or 7133 feature 4040) or for any other SSA adapter, installation will fail on a system which is running the PC SSA Event Logger Service from any current or previous SSA adapter. The SETUP program will not recognize the presence of the existing PC SSA Event Logger Service, and will not stop the service. With the service still running, a new event logger cannot be copied, and SETUP will fail with a "File Copy Error". This issue is solved by manually stopping the PC SSA Event Logger Service prior to running SETUP, which allows the new event logger to be copied.
