Applicable to: World-Wide
Source: RETAIN tip H166164
Abstract: Netfinity 7000: Diagnostics report false errors
Symptom:
Netfinity 7000 reports errors while running diagnostics.
Problem isolation aids:
Fix:
When running diagnostics on a Netfinity 7000, the first thing the user should do is choose "Configuration" from the main headings. Then choose "Self-configure test menu", this will allow the diagnostics to scan all devices in the system and list them for the user to accept. This will make sure that only tests are run which are relevant to the system configuration. Otherwise, the user may see false errors reported for various reasons due to the default diagnostic settings (e.g. Video Memory, Processor Cache Size, and Number of Processors, etc.).
Details:
Netfinity 7000 diagnostics have some default settings which will cause errors when running diagnostics if the system configuration is different than expected. When "Self-configure tests" is chosen, diagnostics will scan the system to detect all installed parts which will allow diagnostics to run the proper tests. If this is not done, then false errors may be reported by diagnostics.
