OPERATING AND POWER CONTROLS, INDICATORS AND PROCEDURES
Operating, power controls, indicators, and procedures are explained in the PC Server System Library as shipped with the product.
DATA SECURITY CHARACTERISTICS
Security and auditability features of these servers are:
o Power-on and privileged access password functions provide controls of who has access to the data and server setup program on the server.
o A set keyboard password is used to lock the keyboard without turning off the system.
o A set unattended Start Mode allows the system keyboard to be locked to all entries except the password and at the same time allows other computers on the network to access the system disk drive.
o A mechanical lock allows the user to lock the system cover to prevent unauthorized personnel access to diskette drives or removable media.
o A selectable boot sequence can be used to prevent unauthorized installation of software or removal of data from the diskette drive.
o Tie-down capability is achievable by utilizing a common U bolt attached to the back frame.
o Operation without a keyboard and display are supported once the server is configured with the appropriate network operating system. This minimizes the risk of unauthorized people tampering with the system software and configuration.
o A PC Server 330 Security Cover Kit and C2 Cable Option is also available that provides a cover for the cable ports and can detect tampering or
removal of the server covers. This option, when enabled, can also alert the system administrator once this detection occurs.
Limitations:
Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), as defined in the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standard X3.131-1986, provides a port for the attachment of external devices. The SCSI bus may be internal or external to the system unit. PC Server 330 models using the integrated UltraSCSI-2 Fast/Wide Controller are in conformance with this standard and have an external port.
PC Server 330 systems with these controllers or adapters also conform with ANSI SCSI-2 and work with SCSI-2 fast or fast/wide devices. It is a customer's responsibility to ensure that the server is secure, or has a security cover, to prevent sensitive data from being removed via external SCSI ports.
o The PC Server 330 Security Cable Kit and the PC Server Advanced Systems Management Adapter are available to upgrade PC Server 330 systems to higher levels of security.
User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

(A) These network operating systems and appropriate extensions support the PC Server 330 running two processors.
Note:
Further support and certification information on network operating systems will be made available at a later date and can be accessed via the World Wide Web at URL:
http://www.us.pc.ibm.com/compat/
Your IBM marketing representative can also be contacted for a complete listing of these network operating systems. The Sales Manual will be updated by product general availability with a complete list of supported software and certifications where appropriate.
COMPATIBILITY:
The PC Server 330 systems contain licensed system programs that include set configuration, set features, and test programs. Some of these system programs are stored in the system ROM, while others are contained on diskette. System BIOS is loaded from a "flash" EEPROM into system memory. This BIOS provides instructions and interfaces designed to support the standard features of the PC Server 330 and to maintain compatibility with many software programs currently operating under PC DOS and OS/2 on PC Servers; however, due to the higher speed of the processors in these models, some timing-sensitive software may require modification.
To view detailed information on the Internet about IBM and non-IBM devices, adapters, software, and network operating systems supported with PC Servers, enter:
http://www.us.pc.ibm.com/compat/
Also, customers can contact their IBM representative, Authorized Remarketer, or IBM PC HelpWare or refer to the IBM Sales Manual for information on the compatibility of hardware and software for IBM PC Servers. The Sales Manual is updated periodically as new features and options are announced that support these servers.
LIMITATIONS:
o The PC Server 330 (model PM0) with a 200MHz Pentium Pro can support 1GB of EDO memory by using a 256MB DIMM option in each of the four memory DIMM sockets. PC Server 330 (models PT0, PB0) with Pentium II processors support a maximum of 512MB of system memory. All supported system memory is addressable through direct memory access (DMA). All supported memory DIMMs can be installed in any combination. (Refer to the Compatibility Section of the PC Server Web page or the IBM Sales Manual, or contact your IBM reseller or marketing representative, for supported EDO DIMM memory options.)
o Microprocessor SMP upgrades must be of the same type and clock speed. Mixing microprocessors of different speeds or cache size is not supported.
o Because these systems are designed as industry standard servers using an industry standard diskette drive interface, the location of the media eject button on the industry standard diskette drive and the lack of support for a electronic eject 2.88MB diskette drive option may be a limitation for customers with certain disabilities.
o PC Server 330 systems contain a 7880 UltraSCSI Fast/Wide PCI controller that has one 68-pin external SCSI connector that can support up to 15 SCSI devices. When using this connector refer to the ANSI SCSI-3 FAST-20 document for cable lengths and other technical requirements to determine if the configuration can be supported. Information on this subject can also be found in the PC Server 330 System Library.
o Customers should use the version of ServerGuide that ships with the system, or a later version, to load software and drivers. Earlier versions of ServerGuide may not be compatible with the server.
Refer to the SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS section for operating systems limitations.
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES:
The PC Server 330 is designated as customer setup. Customer setup instructions are shipped with the system.
CONFIGURATION INFORMATION:
PC SERVER 330 HOT-SWAP BAY ARRAY MODELS
These PC Server 330 models contain hot-swap drive bays connected to an integrated PCI RAID controller. An integrated Wide Ultra SCSI controller is also available for external attachment of SCSI devices. These models are internally cabled with a single-drop 16-bit SCSI cable connected to the RAID controller at one end and the hot-swap backplane at the other end. A three-drop, 16-bit cable is attached to the bottom connector of the hot-swap backplane. One of the drops is connected to the standard CD-ROM drive through a 68- to 50-pin converter, another drop can be used for installation of an optional SCSI device, while the third drop is used for termination. A 16-bit cable is connected from the integrated Wide Ultra SCSI controller and is routed to a SCSI connector on the back panel of the server. This industry standard, 68-pin external connector provides the capability to attach external SCSI devices.
RACK INSTALLATIONS
PC Server 330 models are supported in the IBM Netfinity Rack. Refer to Hardware Announcement 19x-xxx (RFA 29081), dated September 23, 1997, for additional information about rack installations of PC Servers.
CABLE ORDERS:
The 10/100Mbps, full duplex, Ethernet PCI controller, standard with PC Server 330, is connected directly to a RJ-45 connector. The RJ-45 connector provides a 10BaseT or 100Base-TX interface for connecting twisted-pair cable to the Ethernet network. Cabling is not included with the server. To connect the 100/10 controller to a repeater or switch, use an unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable with RJ-45 connectors at both ends. For 100Mbps operation, Category 5 cabling must be used. For 10Mbps operation, Category 3, or better, cabling must be used.
There are no additional cabling requirements, other than for system power, keyboard, mouse, and monitor connections.
INSTALLABILITY: The PC Server 330 models require about 20 minutes for installation. Installation includes unpacking, setting up, and powering on the system. Additional time is required to install an operating system and other adapters or features.
USEABILITY CHARACTERISTICS
By following the setup instructions, the user attaches the keyboard and monitor. The power cord for the display and system unit is then plugged into an electrical outlet. Power is then turned on the monitor, then the system unit. When the system unit is powered on, it performs a power-on self-test (POST) that takes approximately 60 seconds. After POST has completed successfully, installation of software may then be accomplished.
