Aptiva - 2144/2168 Errors running CHKDSK in OS/2 preloaded system

Applicable to: World-Wide

Question:
I tried to run CHKDSK from DOS on my Aptiva (DOS/Warp preloaded) but it fails and gives me an error. How can I fix this?

Answer:
CHKDSK fails to run because there are files in OS/2 that are longer that 67 characters. DOS and OS/2 share the same HD.
When DOS CHKDSK encounters these long files it halts because it cannot read them. If you wish to check the HD for errors,
try the following:

1. Reboot the machine into OS/2 Warp.
2. From OS/2, double-click on the "OS/2 SYSTEM" folder.
3. Double-click on the "COMMAND PROMPTS" folder.
4. Double-click on "OS/2 WINDOW".
5. At the [C:\] prompt type PMCHKDSK and press "ENTER". This will run a graphical version of CHKDSK for OS/2.
