PS/1 - Installing Microsoft Windows 3.0 or 3.1 on an IBM PS/1 2011 or 2121 system
Applicable to: United States
Note: This procedure does not apply to the 2121-G42, A82, S92, M82, or A94 systems.
To install Windows 3.0 or 3.1, follow these steps:
1. Select the IBM DOS quadrant from the main menu screen.
2. Choose Customize How System Starts from the menu.
3. Set the system to: Try Diskette First, Then Try Fixed Disk.
From the same menu, at the bottom of the page, select, Read Config.sys and Autoexec.Bat: From Disk.
4. Press [Enter] to save this change.
5. Exit the DOS quadrant.
6. Re-start the computer by pressing [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Delete].
7. Insert the program Setup diskette in the A: drive.
8. Select the Your Software quadrant from the main menu screen.
9. Click on the A drive icon (picture) in the upper right corner.
10. When the folder opens, double click on SETUP.
11. Follow the instructions given to complete the installation procedure. Use the defaults when configuring.
12. Once Windows is installed properly, you can re-customize the system to "Start from Built-in DOS" if desired. This does not affect the running of Windows after installation.
