Aptiva - Recreating WIN.COM with or without a customized logo

Applicable to: World-Wide

Service Information:
If you have deleted your WIN.COM or simply want to change the logo screen that is seen on starting up Windows, the following may be of interest. WIN.COM is actually a combination of 3 files, these 3 files are:-
1. WIN.CNF
2. LOGO.LGO***
3. LOGO.RLE***
(where *** is usually VGA)

In order to recreate WIN.COM you need to put these files together and this is done as follows:-
1. From a standard DOS prompt change directory (CD) to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
2. Type:-
COPY /B WIN.CNF+VAGLOGO.LGO+VGALOGO.RLE C:\WINDOWS\WIN.COM

If you want to change the logo then you need to edit or create VGALOGO.RLE (the .RLE must be smaller than 50k) and substitute this for the original.
