Aptiva - AOL - No dial tone
Applicable to: United States
If you are unable to get a dial tone (such as after having to manually dial the access number) do the following:
1. Start the AOL program.
2. Click on YES, on OK, and when AOL tries to dial, click on CANCEL.
3. Click on SETUP, on SETUP MODEM, on EDIT COMMANDS, on YES, and on YES again.
4. In the box labeled Setup Modem String..., change entry 'X4' to 'X3'.
5. Click on OK, on OK, and on OK again.
6. Click on SIGNON to try connecting again.
This will cause the modem to dial without looking for a dial tone.
