IBM IntelliStation E Pro (Type 6893)/IBM IntelliStation M Pro (Type 6889, 6898) - ECA021 - Keytop fading of gray keyboards

Purpose:
The purpose of this ECA is to correct a keytop fading condition with PC Next gray keyboards shipped with IBM IntelliStation systems.
Customers may report that characters and numbers on the keytops appear to fade, or rub off after approximately 3 to 5 months of use.

Detail:
Customers may report that characters and numbers on the keytops appear to fade, or rub off after approximately 3 to 5 months of use.
The keytop characters do not fade, or rub off uniformly, but follow a pattern of which keys are used most often.
Comparison of different keyboards will display similar types of character fading, but may not be isolated to the same keytops.
Notes:
If the keyboard exhibits the keytop fading condition described above and falls within the stated part number ranges, replace the keyboard with the appropriate FRU number.
Replacement keyboards that do not exhibit the keytop fading condition can be identified by the revision code found on the label on the underside of the keyboard. Replacement or corrected keyboard revision numbers will end with the number two.
