1.0 What You Will Need
Phillips-head screwdriver (for removing thumbscrews).

Supported hard disk drive. Refer to http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/compat/ for a list of supported options and part numbers for your server.

Licensed copy of MS-DOS 6.22 (or later) or PC-DOS 6.3 (or later).

Licensed copy of Novell NetWare 4.11.

IBM Netfinity 7000 M10 Flash BIOS Update Diskette.

IBM Netfinity Ethernet Controller and IBM Netfinity Fault Tolerant Driver Diskette v2.00 (part number 01K7529A) or later.

7800 Family Manager Diskette (Win NT V4.0, Win NT V3.51, NetWare V3_X, NetWare V4_X, OS/2 2/1X/Warp/SMP) (part number 01K7530) or later.

IBM IDE CD-ROM Support Package (part number 10L8832) or later.

Note: This diskette image is included in Diskette Factory from ServerGuide 4.0.2 (or later) OR you can get the 10L8832.EXE file from the IBM bulletin board system (BBS) or file transfer protocol (FTP) site. For more information, see section 2.0 Where to download device drivers/files.

If you have added a PC ServeRAID III Adapter, you will need:
PC ServeRAID Device Driver and Utilities Diskette, Version 3.01 (part number 01K7556) or later.

PC ServeRAID DOS Configuration Diskette, Version 3.01 (part number 01K7558) or later.

PC ServeRAID BIOS Firmware, diskette, Version 3.01 (part numbers 01K7560) or later.

One blank diskette to extract the IDECD.CMD file. Label this diskette IDECD.CDM Update.

One blank diskette for each of the above device driver diskettes that you are using for your particular installation.

IntranetWare Support Pack v5 (file name IWSP4a.EXE). See Appendix B for further information on downloading and installing this support pack.

If you are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and the installation process, continue with 3.0 Quick installation instructions for experienced users. If not, continue with 4.0 Detailed installation instructions.

3.0 Quick installation for experienced users
1. If you have installed the PC ServeRAID III Adapter and plan to use it as the startup device, see Appendix A. If you plan to use an external DASD enclosure, refer to the documentation provided with the external enclosure for proper set up.

2. Install DOS. Remember to use a DOS partition smaller than 2GB.

3. Run the UINSTALL utility from the IDE CD-ROM Support Package to add IDE CD-ROM support for DOS.

4. Run INSTALL from the NetWare 4.11 CD.

5. If you are using the integrated Adaptec controller, use the AIC7870.DSK driver from the 7800 Family Manager Diskette as it will not be autodetected by the Installation.

6. If you have installed the PC ServeRAID III Adapter, use the IPSRAID.HAM driver from PC ServeRAID Device Driver and Utilities Diskette, Version 3.01 (or later) instead of the one from the NetWare 4.11 CD.

Note: If you wish to start (boot) to the ServeRAID III Adapter, disable the Host Adapter BIOS on both channels of the integrated Adaptec Controller.

7. Remove IDEATA.HAM from the Disk and CD-ROM Drivers.

Note: NetWare IDE CD-ROM support should be added after installation of IntranetWare Support Pack v5. Do not attempt to install NetWare IDE CD-ROM support before installing Support Pack v5 as unpredictable CD-ROM performance might result.

8. Use the E100B.LAN driver from the IBM Netfinity Ethernet Controller and IBM Netfinity Fault Tolerant Driver Diskette v2.00 or later diskette for the integrated 10/100 Ethernet adapter. You might need to specify a slot number for the device. Use slot 10001 in this case.

9. Install IntranetWare Support Pack 5B.

10. Install IDEATA.HAM from the server files and IDECD.CDM from the diskette you labeled IDECD.CDM Update for IDE CD-ROM support under NetWare.

4.0 Detailed Installation Instructions

4.1 Setting up the hardware for NOS installation
1. Remove the top panel by loosening the thumbscrews at the back upper corners of the server. Remove the top access panel by pushing it toward the rear of the system.

2. For the initial installation, install all of the microprocessors that you plan to use, and remove all adapters and devices that are not required to get the base operating system installed. (For example, if you are installing multiple network adapters, only install one at this time. If a tape drive or external SCSI devices will be used, just disconnect them temporarily.) After the operating system is starting without errors, add these devices one at a time. This procedure simplifies the installation process.

Notes:

When installing additional microprocessors, be sure that a microprocessor or a terminator card is in slot 4.

If you have installed the PC ServeRAID III Adapter and you do not plan to use it as the startup device, do not install the PC ServeRAID III Adapter in slot 11 or 12.

If you plan to use an external DASD enclosure, the following instructions will not apply. Refer to the documentation provided with the external enclosure for proper set up; then, continue with 4.2 Setting up the BIOS.

3. Close the top panel.

4. Install the desired number of hot-swap hard disk drives into the hot-swap bays beginning at the top bay and proceeding downward.

4.2 Setting up the BIOS
1. Power-on the server; then, press F1 when the IBM logo appears to enter Configuration/Setup.

2. When the Configuration/Setup Utility menu appears, move the highlighted selection to Load Default Settings and press Enter. Press Enter again to return to the Configuration/Setup Utility menu.

3. Verify that you are at the latest level of Basic Input/Output System (BIOS). Find the latest level by checking the IBM Web, FTP, or BBS site.

Determine the version of BIOS running on your server by highlighting the menu option System Information; then, select Product Data and press Enter. The Flash EEPROM Revision Level field contains the BIOS version. The numbers in position 5, 6, and 7 of the level are the current BIOS level. For example, OSJT23AUS is BIOS level 23A, U.S. English.

Press Esc twice to return to the Configuration Utility menu. If you determine that your BIOS does not need to be updated, continue with step 6.

4. If your BIOS needs to be updated, download the appropriate image and build the diskette image by running the .EXE file. Answer Y on the last page of the licensing agreement. The current diskette image is OSJT23AUS.IMG and is labeled IBM Netfinity 7000 M10 Flash BIOS Diskette. Exit Setup and save the settings.

5. Start (boot) with the BIOS diskette in the server and answer the question appropriately. After the BIOS update is complete, you might receive a '162 Configuration has changed' error on startup (boot). Ignore this message. Setup will start and you can continue with step 6.

Note: If you do not see the '162 Configuration has changed' message at startup (boot) time, you will need to press F1 when the IBM logo appears to enter Setup.

6. Move the highlighted selection to Start Options and press Enter.

7. Verify that the Startup Options are set to the following (change if necessary):

First Startup Device - Diskette 0
Second Startup Device - Hard Disk 0
Third Startup Device - Disabled
Fourth Startup Device - Disabled

Press Esc to return to the main menu.

8. Select Save Settings on the Configuration/Setup Utility window and press Enter twice; then, select Exit Setup and select Yes, exit the Setup Utility.

9. The server will restart. If you receive a 162 Configuration Change has Occurred message during post, press Enter to select Continue; then, press Enter again. At the Diagnostic/Setup Utility window, press Esc; then, press Enter to select Yes, save and exit the Setup Utility.

Note: If you have added the PC ServeRAID III adapter, see Appendix A for hard disk configuration and operating system installation instructions.

4.3 Configuring Hard Disk Drives Using the Integrated SCSI Controller
1. Start (boot) the server and press Ctrl A when prompted.

2. Select the adapter that you wish to configure.

Note: Channel B is started by default. If you are using both channels of the integrated Adaptec disk controller, be sure to repeat steps 2 through 5 for both channels.

3. Select Configure/View Host Adapter Settings.

4. Select SCSI Device Configuration.

5. For Device IDs of hard disk drives and other startable (bootable) devices, make sure that Send Start Unit Command is set to Yes.

6. Press Esc twice to confirm the changes that you made.

7. Select SCSI Disk Utilities.

8. Format each hard disk drive individually by pressing Enter while it is highlighted, selecting Format Disk, and then responding Yes twice. Formatting might take some time.

9. When all formatting is complete, exit the SCSISelect utility.

10. Install DOS. Be sure to create a DOS partition under 2GB in size.

11. Insert Netfinity IDE CD-ROM Support Package diskette and type A:\INSTALL (where A is the diskette drive letter).

12. Press Enter to accept A as the Installation Source Drive.

13. Press Enter again at the Put Source Media in Drive A window.

14. Highlight Install IDE CD-ROM DOS/Windows Support Package and press Enter.

15. Specify a target path and press Enter (C:\ is the default).

16. You will receive a Warning that the LASTDRIVE= statement in CONFIGSYS might need to be altered. You might wish to review your CONFIG.SYS after UINSTALL is complete. Press Enter to continue.

17. You will receive a Warning that If you are using MS-DOS 6.2 or PC-OS 6.3, you might need to install the DOS 6.2+ - Update for SMARTDRV/PhotoCD option. This package is not necessary for this particular installation. Press Enter to continue.

18. You will receive a Warning that Win 3.0+ - 32 Bit Disk Driver/Primary IDE Port might need to be installed. The package is not necessary for his particular installation. Press Enter to continue.

19. You will receive a Warning that Update for SMARTDRV 4.0 might need to be installed. This package is not necessary for this particular installation. Press Enter to continue.

20. You will receive a Warning that you must restart your server for the changes to take effect. Press Enter to continue.

21. Press F3 to return to a DOS prompt and remove the Netfinity 7000 M10 IDE CD-ROM Support Package diskette from the diskette drive.

22. Using a standard text editor, determine if the following lines are contained within the CONFIG.SYS file on C. If they are, type REM at the beginning of these lines and save the file:

DOS=HIGH
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE

Note: The default drive letter for the CD-ROM drive is the first free drive letter under DOS (typically D). To specify the CD-ROM drive letter explicitly, edit the C:\MSCDEX /D:IBMCD100 /M:12 line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT by adding /L:D at the end of the line (replacing D with the desired drive letter).

4.4 Running the NetWare 4.11 Installation Program Using the Integrated SCSI Controller
1. Restart the server and insert the NetWare 4.11 Operating System CD into the CD-ROM drive. Move to the CD-ROM drive letter set above and type INSTALL.

2. Select the language that you wish to install and press Enter.

3. Read through the licensing terms, pressing Enter as necessary.

4. From the Select the type of installation desired window, select NetWare Server Installation and press Enter.

5. From the Select the Product Desired window, select NetWare 4.11 and press Enter.

6. Select Custom Installation of NetWare 4.11 and press Enter.

7. If you are installing on a hard disk drive larger than 4 GB, you might receive the message, The size of the DOS partition is XXX MB. It should be at least 15 MB to continue with the installation. Highlight Yes and press Enter.

8. Enter the Server Name and press Enter.

9. Unless you have a specific method of setting internal Internet Packet Exchange (IPX) numbers, accept the default by pressing Enter.

10. Press Enter to accept default source and destination directories for installation, or F2 to specify a different source path or F4 to specify a different destination path. Server startup files will now be copied to the DOS partition.

11. Select a locale configuration for the server and press Enter.

12. Select Yes at the Do you want to modify, add, or delete any special startup set commands? prompt and press Enter. Add the following commands:

SET MAXIMUM PACKET RECEIVE BUFFERS = 500
SET MINIMUM PACKET RECEIVE BUFFERS = 100

Press F10 to save and continue.

13. Specify whether or not to add commands to AUTOEXEC.BAT to load SERVER.EXE (automatically load NetWare upon server start up) and press Enter. The default is No. If you choose to add the commands, specify the path to AUTOEXEC.BAT and press Enter.

14. If you plan to run this server with multiple processors, select Yes to install SMP NetWare and press Enter. If you choose to install SMP NetWare, select MPS14.PSM from the next window and press Enter.

15. NetWare now scans for available disk and LAN controller drivers. You will receive the message, Install found the following hardware but was unable to find a matching driver: PCI LAN Controller: 8086.1229.1014.005C.02. Press F3 to continue.

16. Select Select additional or modify selected Disk/LAN drivers and press Enter.

17. Highlight Disk and CD-ROM Drivers: and press Enter.

18. Highlight Deselect a selected driver and press Enter.

19. Highlight IDEATA and press Enter.

20. Highlight Select an additional driver and press Enter.

21. Press the Insert key to Install an unlisted driver and then press F3 to specify different path.

22. Insert the 7800 Family Manager Diskette, change the directory path to A:\NETWARE\V4_XX, and press Enter.

23. Highlight AIC7870.DSK and press Enter. You do not need to save any of the following existing files.

24. Highlight No at the question 'Do you want to select an additional Disk driver?' and press Enter.

25. Highlight Continue installation and press Enter.

26. Highlight Network LAN drivers and press Enter.

27. Press Insert to Install an unlisted driver; then, press F3 to specify a different path.

28. Insert the IBM Netfinity Ethernet Controller and IBM Netfinity Fault Tolerant Driver Diskette v2.00 or later and press Enter.

29. Highlight IBMFE.LAN and press Enter. You do not need to save any of the following existing files.

30. Highlight Select/Modify driver parameters and press Enter.

31. Highlight Slot Number: and press Enter. Enter the slot number for the IBM 10/100 Ethernet Adapter. If you have added additional hardware, this slot number might vary.

32. Press Esc, highlight Save parameters and continue and press Enter.

33. Highlight No at the question 'Do you want to select an additional Network driver?' and press Enter.

34. Remove the Ethernet 10/100 Diskette.

35. Highlight Continue installation and press Enter.

36. You might now wish to specify any additional Disk or LAN Drivers. If you wish to do so, highlight Select additional or modify Disk/LAN drivers and press Enter. If you are finished adding drivers, highlight Continue installation and press Enter.

37. You might receive a message on adapters with multiple ports or channels that their particular driver did not load. If you are not using all of their ports or channels, this failure message is normal and should be ignored. Press Enter to continue the installation.

38. You will receive the warning message 'There is a slight chance that you might be using a NetWare driver that conflicts with the DOS CD-ROM driver'. This is a normal message as no IDE CD-ROM support drivers were selected under NetWare. Highlight Continue accessing the CD-ROM via DOS and press Enter.

Note: NetWare IDE CD-ROM support will be added after the installation of IntranetWare Support Pack v5. Do not attempt to install NetWare IDE CD-ROM support before installing Support Pack v5, as unpredictable CD-ROM performance might result.

39. You might wish to add protocols other than IPX at the Protocol Selection window by highlighting View/Modify Protocol Settings and pressing Enter twice. To continue the installation using only IPX, press Enter. If you wish to install additional protocols, you will need to supply additional information at the Protocol Settings window and then press Esc to return to the Protocol Selection window. Highlight Continue with installation and press Enter when protocol configuration is complete.

40. Highlight Create NetWare Partitions Automatically and press Enter.

41. Review the NetWare message that lists the amount of free disk space for the system and press Enter.

42. At the next window, you can either change the volume size or accept the default volume configurations. To change the volume size, press the Insert key and then Enter on a volume name, and then press F10 to save the change. To accept the default volume configurations, press F10 and then Enter.

43. Press Enter to accept a preliminary installation path, or press F3 for a different path. If you wish to change the path, type the new path name and press Enter twice. The system will now perform a Preliminary Copy.

44. After the preliminary copy is complete, select Yes, this is the first NetWare 4 server, or No to connect to the existing NetWare 4 network.

If you select Yes:
a. Type the Directory name and press Enter.
b. Select the appropriate time zone and press Enter.
c. Review the settings for Time and Date and press Enter on any item to modify its value or F10 to accept the values and continue the installation.
d. Specify Company or Organization (normally the Directory Tree name again), and any additional sub-organizations and press Enter.
e. Enter your Administrator password twice and press Enter after each entry.
f. Select Yes and press Enter to save Directory Information.

If you select No:
The network is checked for existing NetWare servers.
Note: A Master or Read/Write Replica Server in the NetWare Directory Services (NDS) tree must be active before any given tree will appear in the list.
b. Select an NDS tree to connect to and press Enter.
c. Select the appropriate time zone and press Enter.
d. Review settings for Time and Date and press Enter on any item to modify its value or F10 to accept the values and continue installation.
e. Type the administrator password for that server and press Enter.
f. Specify any additional sub-organizations and press Enter.
g. Select Yes and press Enter to save Directory Information.

45. Setup prints out a report of Directory information to copy. Press Enter to continue when you have completed copying this information.

Note: Use of a duplicate licensed diskette will cause unpredictable results and is a violation of the Novell NetWare License Agreement.

46. Insert the Licensed Diskette for your version of NetWare and press Enter, or F3 to specify a location other than the A drive.

47. A message stating that The Server Connection License Was Successfully Installed will appear. Press Enter and remove the Licensed Diskette.

48. Make any changes that you wish to make to the STARTUP.NCF and press F10; then, press Enter on Yes to confirm those changes.

49. Make any changes that you wish to make to the AUTOEXEC.NCF and press F10; then, press Enter on Yes to confirm those changes.

50. NetWare now performs the main file copy to the hard disk drive.

51. Remove the Licensed Diskette.

52. When the copy is complete, select Continue installation and press Enter to exit. Press Enter at the Server installation of NetWare 4.11 is complete message.

53. Shut down and restart the server by typing DOWN and pressing Enter; then, typing RESTART SERVER and pressing Enter.

54. Continue with Appendix B to install IntranetWare Support Pack v5.

Appendix A: Installing NetWare 4.11 using the PC ServeRAID III Adapter

A.1 Configuring arrays using the PC ServeRAID III Adapter
1. Upon initial start up, an error message similar to the following might appear:

Following drives not responding (oldstate:newstate:ch:bay)(ONL:DDD:2:1)(ONL:DDD:2:2)

Identifiers for the following drives do not match configuration ...

Press F10 to Exit without change.

2. If the BIOS Version of the IBM PC ServeRAID III Adapter is not 3.01 (or later), start IBM ServeRAID BIOS Firmware, Version 3.01. If the BIOS Version of the IBM PC ServeRAID III Adapter is already at 3.01, start IBM ServeRAID DOS Configuration Diskette, Version 3.01 (or later ) and continue with step 5.

3. At the IBM DOS 6.1 Startup menu, select Option 1, ServeRAID III BIOS and FIRMWARE update and press Enter. The utility then updates the servers BIOS and Firmware.

4. Remove the IBM ServeRAID BIOS Firmware Update Diskette and insert the IBM ServeRAID DOS Configuration Diskette, Version. Restart the server and repeat step 1 if necessary.

5. If you received the message described in step 1, do the following:

Select Advanced Functions, then select Init/View/Synchronize Config, and finally select Initialize Configuration. Confirm the initialization request with a Yes. After initializing, exit to the main menu.

Otherwise, continue with step 6.

6. On the main menu, select Create/Delete/Copy Log Drive and press Enter.

7. Select Create Disk Array.

8. Use the arrow keys to select RDY drives for each new array. Press Enter on each highlighted drive to change to ONL and add it to the array.

9. Press Esc when you are finished selecting drives, and then press Enter.

10. Select Define Logical Drive.

11. Select an array in which to define a drive.

12. Specify the RAID level for the new logical drive and press Enter.

13. Specify the size for the new logical drive by keeping or typing over the size presented, and confirm with a Yes.

14. A message stating that All logical drives must be INITIALIZED after being created appears. Press Enter. Confirm the command to initialize the new logical drive with a Yes. If a RAID-5 logical drive was defined, a message stating that All RAID-5 logical drives must be SYNCHRONIZED after initialization appears. Confirm synchronization of the new logical drive with a Yes. The synchronization process will take place in the background. It is safe to continue the installation while this synchronization occurs. The synchronization is designed to complete in the background while normal system operation takes place.

15. Press Esc to return to the main menu. Select Advanced Functions and then select Backup IPS ServeRAID Config.

16. Verify that the IBM ServeRAID DOS Configuration Diskette, Version 3.01 (or later) is not write-protected.

17. In the window Config box, type the name of the file where the configuration will be saved or press Enter to accept the default; then, select Yes to confirm.

18. Exit the utility, ignoring the message to back up the RAID configuration and again confirm with a Yes.

Note: The procedure outlined in steps 19 through 26 disables the integrated Adaptec controllers startup (boot) capability. You can still access devices attached to it with the proper device drivers loaded.

19. Remove the diskette and start the server, pressing Ctrl A when prompted.

20. Select the channel that you wish to configure.

Note: If you are using both channels of the integrated Adaptec disk controller, be sure to repeat steps 21 through 26 for both channels.

21. Select Configure/View Host Adapter Settings.

22. Select Advanced Configuration Options.

23. Set Host Adapter BIOS (Configuration Utility Reserves BIOS Space) to Disabled.

24. Press Esc twice to confirm the changes that you made.

25. Press Esc a third time to return to the Bus:Device:Channel selection window.

26. When all formatting is complete, press Esc and select Yes to exit the SCSISelect utility.

A.2: Running the NetWare 4.11 Installation Program using the PC ServeRAID III Adapter
1. Restart the server and insert the NetWare 4.11 Operating System CD into the CD-ROM drive. Move to the CD-ROM drive letter x and type INSTALL.

2. Select the language that you want to install in and press Enter.

3. Read through the licensing terms, pressing Enter as necessary.

4. From the Select the type of installation desired window, select NetWare Server Installation and press Enter.

5. From the Select the Product Desired window, select NetWare 4.11 and press Enter.

6. Select Custom Installation of NetWare 4.11 and press Enter.

7. If you are installing to a hard disk drive larger than 4GB, you might receive the message The size of the DOS partition is XXX MB. It should be at least 15 MB to continue with the installation. Highlight Yes and press Enter.

8. Enter the Server Name and press Enter.

9. Unless you have a specific method of setting internal IPX numbers, accept the default by pressing Enter.

10. Press Enter to accept default source and destination directories for installation. Server boot files will now be copied to the DOS partition.

11. Select a locale configuration for the server and press Enter.

12. Select Yes at the 'Do you want to modify, add, or delete any special startup set commands?' prompt and press Enter. Add the following commands:

Press F10 to save and continue.

14. NetWare now scans for available disk controller drivers. Press Enter and then press F10 Continue without selecting.

15. Highlight Select additional or modify selected Disk/LAN drivers in the Driver Actions menu and press Enter.

16. Highlight the Disk and CD-ROM driver names and press Enter.

17. Highlight Select an additional driver and press Enter.

18. Press Insert; then, press F3 to install an unlisted device driver.

19. Insert the PC ServeRAID Device Driver and Utilities Diskette into the diskette drive.

20. Press Enter.

21. Highlight IPSRAID.HAM and press Enter. Reply No to save existing file questions.

22. Select/Modify driver parameters to set the Slot Number to the Slot containing the ServeRAID adapter card.

23. Highlight Save parameters and continue and press Enter.

24. Specify any additional Disk Drivers in the above fashion by choosing Yes and pressing Enter, or select No and press Enter to continue with the installation.

25. Highlight Continue installation and press Enter.

26. Continue the installation at step 26 of 4.4 Running the NetWare 4.11 Installation Program Using the Integrated SCSI Controller.

Appendix B Installing IntranetWare Support Pack v5
To install the IntranetWare Support Pack, complete these steps:

1. To explode the file, type the file name and press Enter. Explode the file on the servers volume SYS:, on another server volume, or on a local client that is using RCONSOLE to run the installation.

Note: This file contains directory paths that could exceed the DOS limits. The file must be extracted in a root level directory on your local drive or on a NetWare volume that accepts longer paths.

2. At the server console prompt, type LOAD INSTALL and press Enter.

3. Select Product Options.

4. Select Install a Product Not Listed.

5. Depending on where the IntranetWare Support Pack files are located, complete one of the following steps:
a. From the local volume SYS:, press F3 and specify the path, including the volume name (for example, SYS:\(directory name).
b. From a different server on the network, press F3 and specify the full path, including the server name (for example, Server_Name\VOL1:\directory name). This step prompts for a logon name and password for the other server.
c. From a local drive on a client using RCONSOLE, press F4.

6. Press Enter.

7. Press F10 to accept the marked options and continue.

8. Press Enter to end.

9. After the files finish copying, review the .NCF files for accuracy; then, shut down the server and restart it to complete the installation of the IntranetWare Support Pack.

10. In order to activate the purge fixes (PRGFREFX.NLM), the PURGE /ALL DOS command must be run at the root of all the server volumes. In addition, VREPAIR.NLM should be run until there are no errors.

Note: Newer files that already exist on the server will NOT be overwritten. The files are first version-checked, if they are the same they are then date-checked.
