(For users who are very familiar with SCSI, hardware, and install process, jump to Appendix B)

Setting Up the Hardware:
1. Looking at the rear of the system, loosen the two thumb screws at the top of the system and remove the top access panel.

2. For the initial install, it is recommended that you remove all adapters and devices that are not required to get the base operating system installed. (For example, if installing multiple network adapters, only install one at this time. If a tape drive or external SCSI devices will be used, just disconnect them temporarily. After the operating system is booting without errors, add these devices one at the time. This procedure streamlines the install process.

3. If the system is non-array:
- Looking at the rear of the system, verify that the SCSI cables (part number 01K6525) run from the integrated SCSI controllers, located near the top right corner of the system board, to the top of the hot-swap backplanes.

If you have installed a PC ServeRAID II Adapter:
- Verify that the PC ServeRAID II Adapter is firmly in one of the systemÆs PCI expansion slots.
- Looking at the rear of the system, loosen the four thumb screws at the four corners of the shuttle and pull the shuttle back, exposing the back of the hot-swap backplanes.
- Unhook the two SCSI cables (part number 01K6525) from the integrated SCSI controllers and reattach them to the first two connectors on the PC ServeRAID II adapter.
- Return the shuttle to its original position and tighten the four thumb screws.

4. Install a supported network adapter into one of the available ISA, EISA or, PCI expansion slots and properly connect its external port to a network cable.

5. Install the desired number of hot-swap hard drives into the hot-swap bays beginning at the top of a backplane and proceeding downward.

Setting Up the BIOS:
1. Power on the system and press <F1> to enter SETUP.

2. Under the Main heading, verify the time and date settings.

3. Highlight Boot Options and verify that ôFirst Boot Deviceö is ôCD-ROM,ö ôSecond Boot Deviceö is ôFloppy,ö ôThird Boot Deviceö is ôHard Disk,ö and "Fourth Boot Deviceö is ôDisabled,ö or one of the other available settings if you desire a fourth boot option. Next press Esc to return to the previous screen.

4. Press the right arrow key to bring up the Advanced screen. Highlight ôAdvanced Chipset Configurationö and press Enter.

5. Verify that the following parameters are set correctly:

Note: To change the setting on either option, highlight it, then press Enter, highlight your new choice, then press Enter again.
- ôSecond I/O APICö is set to ôEnableö
- ôPIC Interrupt Routingö is set to ôDefault.ö
- ôMP Versionö is set to ô1.4ö, then press Esc.

5. From the Advanced screen, press the left arrow button twice, then highlight ô Exit Saving Changesö and press Enter twice to exit setup.

6. If you have installed any additional supported ISA or EISA adapters you wish to configure into the systemÆs hardware, see Appendix D for further instructions on using the ôIBM Netfinity 7000 System CD-ROMö to configure those devices.

Note: If you have added the PC ServeRAID II adapter into the server, see Appendix A for hard disk configuration and operating system installation instructions.
