Aptiva - Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Access Aptiva is blank
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptoms:
After user installs IE 4.0, Access Aptiva appears as a blank white box on the right 1/3 of the screen if the user attempts to re-enable Access Aptiva.
Workarounds:
A fix is available via IBM Update Connector and via the Aptiva eSupport Page.
Without the patch, the user can choose to either turn off active desktop by right clicking on the desktop, clicking on Active Desktop and unchecking View as Web Page, or
The user can keep Access Aptiva from loading automatically by deleting the file "access.lnk" from the directory C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. The IE 4.0 install should have already done this for the user.
Systems Affected:
2140 and 2142 All Models World Wide.
Additional Notes:
Microsoft has included a work around for this issue in generic IE 4.0 code that disables the loading of Access Aptiva on boot so that the end-user does not immediately see the issue after a download. However, because this is part of the IE 4.0 code, when a user with a customized CD installs IE 4.0, Access Aptiva will be disabled also. Because the CD has the fix in place for Access Aptiva, the user can create a link to access.exe in the directory C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and the program will launch normally on boot.
