56K PC Card Modem/Cellular Capable - Getting "Modem failed to respond" error in Windows 95
Applicable to: AP-N, AP-S, Canada, LA, United States
Problem:
Getting error "Modem failed to respond" when clicking on the "more info" button in Windows 95.
Solution:
1. Make sure the modem is not plugged into any phone line.
2. Run the diagnostics.
3. If it passes diagnostics when it's not plugged in, try running diagnostics with the phone line plugged in.
4. If it fails diagnostics when connected to the phone line, there's a good chance the phone line is not analog.
5. If it passes diagnostics or if you are sure the phone line is analog, check the system.ini for line "comm.drv=brmfcomm.drv".
6. If "comm.drv=brmfcomm.drv" exists, change the line so that it reads "comm.drv=comm.drv".
