Aptiva - Joystick missing after Windows 95 upgrade
Applicable to: United States
If the joystick is not recognized after installing Windows 95, first check the resources setting for the joystick - it should be 201.
To do this follow these steps :
1. Open "Control Panel"
2. Chose "System" then "Device manager"
3. Chose "Sound, video and game controller"
4. Highlight "Gameport joystick" and select "Properties"
5. Select "Resource" and verify if it is 201. If not change it by choosing a different "Basic Configuration".
In Windows, select Start, then Settings, and then Control Panel. If there is no joystick icon present, use the following procedure to install joystick support in Windows 95:
1. From Control Panel, choose Add New Hardware.
2. Click Next
3. Do not let Windows search for new hardware
4. Click Next
5. Select Sound Video and Game Controllers
6. Click Next
7. Under Manufacturers, select Microsoft
8. Under Models, select Gameport Joystick
9. Click Next
The software will install.
Select Finish, and you should get the Joystick icon in Control Panel. Select this icon, and then press the "Calibrate" button. The program will give you instructions to move the joystick. Once the joystick has been calibrated, a test screen will appear, and you can use it to test the joystick and the buttons.
The file W95UPFIX.EXE will add missing icons to Device Manager that were not added during a Windows 95 upgrade. Missing icons may include the following: Modem, MWavedsp, Network Adapters, Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
