TP General - Cannot run SCANDISK because of corrupt hard disk

SYMPTOM:
The hard disk drive has become corrupted and you cannot run SCANDISK from the hard drive because it has become corrupted as well.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad that came with a Windows 95 or Windows 95 Companion CD.
SOLUTION:
Instead of formatting the hard drive and starting over, there is a much simpler solution. The SCANDISK program is located on the Windows 95 CD-ROM that came with the computer. SCANDISK.EXE is located in the WIN95 directory on the CD-ROM drive. If you cannot get into Windows 95, then to access the CD-ROM drive you need have the CD-ROM drivers loading in your config.sys and autoexec.bat on your hard drive, or have a boot diskette with the CD-ROM drivers loaded. To run SCANDISK from the CD-ROM drive, after booting to a command prompt (ensure that your CD-ROM drivers are loaded) type X: (where X is the CD-ROM drive) and press enter. Then type cd\win95 and press enter. Then type scandisk c: and press enter.
