IBM IntelliStation/IBM PC - High speed USB devices fail to function properly

Applicable to: AP-N, AP-S, Canada, LA, United States

SYMPTOM:
High speed USB (Universal Serial Bus) devices such as scanners, digital cameras, printers, and displays, may fail to function properly or are not recognized by application software. Keyboards and mice are not high speed devices, and are thus not affected.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
A limited number of systems within the following machine types may be exposed to the problem.

PC 300GL - 6265, 6272, 6275, 6282, 6284, and 6285
PC 300PL - 6562, 6592, 6862, AND 6892
IntelliStation E Pro PWS - 6893
IntelliStation M Pro PWS - 6889 and 6898
IntelliStation Z Pro PWS - 6865

This TIP applies only when all of the following conditions are met:

• The operating system is Windows 95 versions B or C, or Windows 98.
• Windows Device Manager does not identify any problems.
• The failing device is a scanner, digital camera, printer or other high speed USB device.
• The device has been properly installed and configured per vendor provided instructions.

FIX:
For the following machine types:
PC 300GL - 6272, 6282, and 6284
PC 300PL - 6562, 6572, 6582, and 6592
IntelliStation M Pro - 6889 and 6898
IntelliStation Z Pro - 6865

Once it is determined that a possible hardware problem exists, use normal problem escalation procedures and request assistance from IBM PSG Client Systems World Wide Level2 Support.

PC 300PL - 6862, and 6892
IntelliStation E Pro - 6893

Once it is determined that a possible hardware problem exists, use normal service procedures to replace the system board.
