Drive Letters not Available
Applicable to: United States
Problem:
Drive Letters are not available.
Aid:
Check the drivers being loaded. Problems may be caused by loading drivers that, by their purpose, tie up drive letters.
Examples of such drivers are:
PAWATA.SYS for pcmcia ATA Hard drives
RAMDRV.SYS for virtual RAM Drives
DISKDRV.SYS for pcmcia ATA Hard drive
Below is a sample situation:
A customer had a 760EL in a DockII with the Token Ring PCMCIA adapter installed in the docking station. He was able to attach to the network, but unable to find the G drive. It was discovered that the driver, PAWATA.SYS (a pcmcia driver that uses some specific drives such as D, E, G, H), was loading in the CONFIG.SYS and wasn't allowing access to the drive. By REMming out this driver the customer was able to use drive G.
