TP 760E/ED - Unknown/unrecognized parameter message during remote PCMCIA system installation
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
When performing remote installation using the SEDISK /P:n (where "n" is the number of the line in PCMCIA.TBL which corresponds to the user's system type) on a laptop with a PCMCIA network adapter, the user may, in some cases, see the following message scroll past:
Unknown/Unrecognized Parameter in CONFIG.SYS
The installation continues without pausing.
CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad 760E/ED running OS/2 Warp attempting to do a remote system install.
SOLUTION:
This message is caused by an additional parameter on the BASEDEV lines for the PCMCIA drivers. To resolve this error:
1) Boot from the installation diskette.
2) Press F3 from the Welcome screen to get to a command prompt.
3) Make sure Diskette 1 is in the drive and enter TEDIT A:CONFIG.SYS at the command prompt.
4) Look for the BASEDEV= statements for the PCMCIA drivers in CONFIG.SYS.
First, locate your system in the PCMCIA.TBL file; the PCMCIA drivers are listed in the entry for your system. The following example shows a ThinkPad entry in the PCMCIA.TBL file:
IBM ThinkPad 760ED;NULL;IBM2SS04.SYS/IBM2SS14.SYS;/s0=2;NULL;ultrabay0;dockmgr:
This translates to the following BASEDEV statements in CONFIG.SYS:
BASEDEV=IBM2SS04.SYS /s0=2
BASEDEV=IBM2SS14.SYS /s0=2
(NOTE: These statements usually follow the BASEDEV=PCMCIA.SYS statement.)
5) Remove the /s0=2 parameter from the second BASEDEV statement (not including the BASEDEV=PCMCIA.SYS line).
