CrossBrand - Upgrading Windows NT from One Processor to Multiple Processors

Applicable to: World-Wide

Follow these steps to upgrade Windows NT from one processor to two or more processors:

1. Insert the NT CD-ROM in the drive and change to the D:\I386 subdirectory.

2. Type WINNT32 /B and let the install finish copying files. When prompted, allow NT to reboot.

When the system reboots, a black screen displays the message, "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration..."

3. Press F5.

This step prompts Setup to request the correct HAL for the system.

4. If you are using a 320, 520, or any Commercial Desktop, select "MPS Multiprocessor PC."

If you are using a 720 machine, select "Other provided by manufacturer" and then insert the 720 HAL diskette.

5. Continue with Setup as usual. When NT prompts you for any mass storage device drivers that you are currently using, follow the steps you took when NT was originally set up.

After all the mass storage devices have loaded, NT should detect an existing copy of Windows NT somewhere on the system.

6. Select Enter to allow NT to upgrade the existing copy of Windows NT.

7. After Setup completes, install any Service Packs that were on the system
