Netfinity 5500 - Upgrading to a 2-Way Xeon processor system

IBM Netfinity Upgrade for Pentium II Xeon Processors (01K8049) is a processor card and hardware that enable Pentium II models of Netfinity 5500 to be converted to support the new 400 MHz Pentium II Xeon processors. The processor card contains two slot 2 processor sockets, 440GX Host Bridge Controller, four DIMM memory sockets, four Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) sockets, and terminator card. Refer to the Hardware Requirements section for additional requirements relative to processors and memory types.
Netfinity Upgrade for Pentium II Xeon Processors
The Netfinity Upgrade for Pentium II Xeon Processors requires the following additional components:
All memory installed in the system must be designated as registered DIMMs. These options include:
Netfinity 128 MB SDRAM ECC RDIMM (01K7262)
Netfinity 256 MB SDRAM ECC RDIMM (01K8043)
Netfinity 512 MB SDRAM ECC RDIMM (01K7263)
One or two of the following Pentium II Xeon processor options:
400 MHz/512 KB Upgrade with Pentium II Xeon Processor (01K7264) - includes two VRM's
400 MHz/1 MB Upgrade with Pentium II Xeon Processor (10L5894) - includes two VRM's
Note: Where two processors are installed they must each be of the same type, speed and cache size.
Therefore, in order to upgrade a Netfinity 5500 to a Xeon PII system, you must first purchase the part 01K8049, then one or two of the processors mentioned above. Customers with registered memory that matches those mentioned above can keep using them, otherwise you must purchase the memory listed above. See your model announcement for information about your memory type.
You can determine if registered DIMMs are installed in your Netfinity 5500 server via the BIOS screens: Press F1 during boot and go to System Summary page, under System Memory Type it will say 'Registered SDRAM' if this is the type currently installed.
