Network Station - Creating a screen saver image for IBM Network Station

Applicable to: World-Wide

To create a screen saver image using IBM Network Station Manager, do the following (This applies to all NC platforms: NT, AS/400, AIX, VM , MVS):

Create your image or logo: on a PC, you can use a program like Microsoft Paint to create a BMP or GIF file . Create these files as black and white images. The portion of the graphic that is black displays as white on the screen saver. Convert your image to XBM format (the screen saver image must be in the form of an XBM file). XBM files are two-color graphics files. You can use a program like Image Alchemy(ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/graphics/alch18.zip) to convert your BMP and GIF files to XBM files. Move the image to the server, and place it in the PRODBASE/SysDef/ directory, where PRODBASE/SysDef/ is:

AS/400 /QIBM/ProdData/NetworkStation/SysDef/
OS/390 /usr/lpp/nstation/standard/SysDef/
RS/6000 /usr/netstation/SysDef/
VM/ESA /QIBM/ProdData/NetworkStation/SysDef/
Windows NT c:\nstation\prodbase\SysDef\

Note: Keep a back-up copy of your XBM file. Files placed in this directory may be erased if IBM Network Station Manager is reinstalled or upgraded. Use the IBM Network Station Manager to change the screen saver. To set the screen saver for all users, select Hardware>Workstations>System defaults. Under monitor settings, set path for XBM file to: /netstation/prodbase/SysDef/filename.xbm, where filename.xbm is your XBM filename.
