PS/1-Aptiva - I cannot lower my "estimated" compression ratio

There may be times when DoubleSpace does not allow you to lower the Estimated Compression Ratio (ECR), even when it is within the allowable range. For example, suppose that DoubleSpace reports that the ECR can be changed to anything between 1.4 and 2.3. However, when actually trying to lower the ECR to 1.5 (say from 2.0), the system rejects the request.
This may happen when there are lost allocation units at the end of your hard drive, when there are a lot of fragmented files on your compressed drive, or if a file with read only, hidden, or system attributes is stored at the end of the compressed drive.
There are three different ways to fix this problem.
1. To correct the lost allocation unit problem, run CHKDSK /F on the compressed drive.
2. To correct the fragmented drive problem, run DEFRAG on the compressed drive.
3. To correct the hidden-system file problem:
---a. Clear the attributes on the file by entering: ATTRIB <filename> -R -S -H at the MS DOS command prompt. (For Norton Image files, enter: ATTRIB MIRORSAV.FIL -R -S -H)
---b. Enter: DEFRAG /Q /H C:
