TP General - Internet Explorer corruption of Desktop Color Palette
Applicable to: World-Wide
SYMPTOM:
When opening a Window (such as my computer) the Desktop background colors corrupt. When you close the window, the desktop colors correct. Below is an example using the CLOUDS background:

CONFIGURATION:
Any ThinkPad, Windows '95 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 loaded, and 256 color desktop Color Palette (to check, go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Display/Settings tab - the Color Palette box will contain the value you are currently set to).
WORKAROUND:
To resolve do one of three things:
1. Select an alternate background.
2. Change desktop Color Palette to more than 256 colors:
(note: not all ThinkPads support greater than 256 colors at all resolutions.)
a) Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Display/Settings tab
b) Click on the down arrow in Color Palette box to reveal possible other Color Palettes
c) Select a setting which is below the 256 Color setting [in the example below that would be High Color (16-bit) or True Color (24-bit)].
d) Press OK and reboot if necessary
3. Remove Active Desktop:
*notes: -This will only stop the problem from occurring when opening Windows, the problem will still occur when you open IE4.0.
- If you later decide to re-install this feature, you must have an internet connection.
a) Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs
b) Select "Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0" from the pull-down list
c) Press the "Add/Remove" button
d) Select the "Remove the Windows Desktop Update component..." radio button.
e) Press OK
