Aptiva - Why should I use High Density diskettes?
Applicable to: World-Wide
High density 3.5" diskettes offer substantial storage space for your information. Twice as much information can be stored on a high density diskette compared to a regular density (double sided) diskette. A high density diskette has a 2.0 MB capacity. The formatting process erases and checks disks for bad areas. Also, a certain amount of space is used to allow the system to organize your information. After formatting a high density diskette, approximately 1.44 MB of space remains which allows you to store at least 1,440,000 bytes of information on it (a byte represents a character, such as a letter or number). A regular density diskette initially has a 1.0 MB capacity. This provides for at least 720 KB of storage space after formatting.
High density 3.5" diskettes should be used when using the backup feature. There is a possibility of data loss if the fixed disk is backed up using regular double sided diskettes which are formatted as high density.
