Drivers are also available on the IBM BBS (U.S. only) at 919-517-0001, anonymous ftp (ftp.pc.ibm.com), and the World Wide Web (http://www.pc.ibm.com/files.html).

SCO Unix 3.2 v4.2 and Open Desktop/Server v3.0 Support Level Supplement uod429a can be downloaded from the SCO BBS. It can be accessed through anonymous ftp (ftp.sco.com) or through the World Wide Web (http://www.sco.com).This replacement N1 disk, located in the "/SLS" directory, contains new drivers to take advantage of the PCI bus. This file is Unix "Z" compressed and will require a Unix system to uncompress and convert to diskette. Refer to the file uod429a.ltr for further information on this supplement.

Currently, there are no drivers available for the IBM PCI Fast SCSI-2 adapter (p/n 32G3100, IBM chip-set). If a SCSI adapter is required, the IBM PCI Fast/Wide SCSI-2 adapter (p/n 94G4673, Adaptec chip-set) is recommended.

Note
The PC Server 310 (166/200Mhz), 315, 325, 330, and 704 have not been certified with SCO Unix 3.2 v4.2 and Open Desktop/Server v3.0 at this time.

To install using the on-board IDE interface, make sure the drive parameters are set to USER. If set to AUTO, the drive parameters may not be accessed correctly and the installation will fail.

SCO Unix 3.2 v4.2 and Open Desktop/Server v3.0 Installation
Insert the uod429a replacement N1 diskette into the floppy drive and power on the system. Whenever the installation prompts for the N1 disk, use the uod429a diskette. Mark the original N1 diskette as obsolete.

At the BOOT: prompt, type the following: restart link=alad Sdsk=alad(0,x,0) Srom=alad(0,x,0) <Enter> Where x = scsi-ID of device, Sdsk=boot hard drive, and Srom=cdrom drive.

Insert the alad BTLD when prompted and press <Enter>. While this is loading, a message stating that "Table io_init contains (at 21) another routine named aladinit" may occur followed by a prompt to replace a module, add aladinit (a), or do nothing (n). At the prompt, type "21" to replace aladinit. Continue with the installation.

Keyboard
Make sure the Num Lock key / light is on before selecting the keyboard type, otherwise possible key mis-mapping can occur. If installing Unix 3.2 v4.2 for the first time, always remember to install the Extended Utilities.

Mouse
For mouse, select "Low Resolution Keyboard Mouse" (two button mouse).

Video
For video, it is recommended to select "IBM VGA" to install. This can be changed as necessary through sysadmsh after installation.

Media
During media selection, the installation query manager allows you to specify the scsi-ID of the tape or cdrom. If you are installing from cdrom, DO NOT CHANGE THE ID FROM ITS DEFAULT OF 5. The above "Srom=" bootstring will override this setting.

Toward the end of the installation, SCO will ask you to confirm the BTLD you are installing. Either press <Enter> for the default or type alad so the driver can be properly linked into the final kernel.

All done. Store the uod429a replacement N1 diskette and the 7800 Family Manager diskette with the operating system disks/media.

SCO OpenServer v5.00 and v5.0.2 Installation
Insert the SCO Open Server BOOT diskette into the floppy drive and power on the system.

Type the following at the BOOT: prompt: restart link=alad325 Sdsk=alad(0,x,0) <Enter> Where x = scsi-ID of device and Sdsk = boot drive.

Insert the alad325 BTLD when prompted and press <Enter>. While this is loading, a message stating that "Table io_init contains (at 21) another routine named aladinit" may occur followed by a prompt to replace a module, add aladinit (a), or do nothing (n). At the prompt, type " 21 " to replace aladinit. Continue with the installation.

Install Release Supplement D, Networking Supplement 1.0.0, and Advanced Hardware Supplement 5.2 (refer to the SCO OpenServer Supplements section).

Install any other supplements as necessary. When complete, the Unix kernel will be re-linked. Shutdown and restart the system for the changes to take affect.

SCO OpenServer v5.0.4 Installation
Type the following at the BOOT: prompt: restart Sdsk=alad(0,x,0) <Enter> Where x = scsi-ID of device and Sdsk = boot drive. No BTLD is required.

Mouse
For mouse, select "Low Resolution Keyboard Mouse" (two button mouse).

Video
For video, it is recommended to select "IBM VGA" to install. This can be changed later as necessary through scoadmin or the video configuration manager after installation.

Media
At media selection, select the options (bus, scsi-id, etc) for your system and continue with the installation. If more than one scsi controller is identified, be sure to select the adapter/driver connected to the installation device.

Network Adapter
It is recommended that you select "deferred" for the network adapter until the Advanced Hardware Supplement for the operating system can be applied (see the SCO OpenServer Supplements section). This supplement contains updated network drivers and patches. The Advanced Hardware Supplement is already included in SCO OpenServer v5.0.4.

After the installation is complete, press <Enter> to reboot the system.

At the prompt press <Ctrl + D> to proceed with normal startup. Enter the ROOT password to boot into system maintenance mode.
