You should now be able to connect to Prodigy at 14.4K.

ERROR CT 17 or No Dial Tone

Cause:

This error appears when the modem attempts to dial into Prodigy but does not detect a dial tone.

Solution:

1. Verify that a live phone line is connected to your Aptiva, and that, if your system has an Mwave modem, you are using the Mwave splitter properly.

2. Run Prodigy setup to ensure that you have chosen the correct modem for your system. If you still encounter the errors, follow the procedure described below:

a. Exit Prodigy if you are still in the application. If you are using Windows 3.x, double-click the "Main" program group in the Program Manager, and then double-click the "DOS Prompt" icon. If you are using Windows 95, click "Start" -> "Programs" -> "MS-DOS Prompt".

b. At the DOS prompt, type "CD \PRODIGY" and press "Enter". The prompt will change to "C:\PRODIGY>".

c. Type "ASSIST" and press "Enter".

d. Click "EXPERT", then click "OK".

e. Press the "F5" key to select "Modem and Phone".

f. Arrow down to the "Modem Command" line, add "X3" to end of the line.

g. At top of screen click "File" -> "Exit". A message box will appear asking if you want to exit Assist, click "Yes". Another message box will appear asking is you want to save your changes, click "Yes". A third message box will appear stating that the PRODIGY.INI file was updated, click "OK".

h. At the DOS prompt, type "EXIT" to return to Windows.

ERROR CT 25

Cause:

The modem did not connect to the service within the specified amount of time.

Solution:

Verify that the correct information is in setup; i.e., phone number with necessary prefixes for an outside line, modem speed, network symbol, tone or pulse, etc.

1.Verify that the site is functional.

2. Clean boot without fax software and other TSRs.

3. Verify that the modem is properly connected to the phone line.

4. If you hear a carrier, after the modem dials, try a new custom modem string.

ERROR CT 27

Cause:

Indicates the modem failed for an unknown reason.

Solution:

- Make sure the modem and phone cables are connected properly.

- If an external modem is present, turn it off, then on again.

- If necessary, try resetting the computer.

ERROR CT 39

Cause:

The modem did not respond correctly to the initialization command.

Solution:

1. Reset the modem.

2. Check the modem manually to determine if the modem supports the configuration commands specified in the modem string in the Prodigy initialization file (PRODIGY.INI for Windows and Prodigy Settings for the Macintosh. If not, remove them.

3. Check for a hardware conflict.

If the above suggestions do not correct the problem, contact Prodigy. If you experience difficulty contacting other (or all) online service(s), look for documents which more accurately reflect your symptoms.
