Crossbrand - Mwave v2.22 primary errors on Windows 95

Applicable to: World-Wide

Subject :
Mwave v2.22 on Win95, primary errors

We continue to get a variety of Primary/Secondary errors as customers upgrade to Mwave v2.22. In most cases there does not seem to be a pattern to the problems that would yield a simple solution. Please consider the following steps as a possible solution.

Check the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files and ensure that references to MWD have been removed and the new statements are correct. Following is what you should expect:

CONFIG.SYS

DEVICEHIGH=c:\mww\manager\mwd50300.exe

Note: The above will NOT support booting to DOS, If you want the DOS support it will read:

Devicehigh=c:\mww\manager\mwdp0400.exe

AUTOEXEC.BAT

SET MWPATH=C:\MWW\DLL;C:\MWW\MWGAMES;C:\MWW\DSP
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T1
SET MWROOT=C:\MWW
SET LIBPATH=C:\MWW\DLL
PATH=C:\MWW\DLL

Note : This line will include other things as required but the only reference to Mwave is the mww\dll.

Note : If you see any reference to MWD something has gone wrong and most likely it will be necessary to manually remove Mwave. If changes to the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT do not resolve the problems Check the SYSTEM.INI.

If Mwave still fails to funciton properly, uninstall by:
a) Running SETUP on disk one of the v2.22 Mwave disk
b) Select the "Uninstall all of Mwave ThinkPad System" when presented with the Select Installation Option
c) When the system shuts down and detects new hardward, select the option to install the driver, select the option to install later and abort the installation.
d) Shutdown and boot to DOS
e) At the DOS prompt type "deltree C:\MWAVE" and press ENTER
f) At the DOS prompt type "dir MW* /S" and press ENTER
g) As of this date I've not encountered any applications that start their filenames with MW therefore I'd suggest deleting all files that the diretory search finds.
h) Boot to Win95
i) Click on Start, Run, type REGEDIT and click on OK
j) Search for MW, delete all Mwave folders (on the left side) you find. At this time Mwave should be completely removed from the system.
k) Shutdown and boot to Win95 (this is just to make sure nothing remains)
l) Reinstall Mwave and see if it properly works. If it does not
l-1) Right click on Start, click on FIND, type "*.dll" (make sure the "include subfolders" is checked) and search My Computer (this will search the entire system).
l-2) Increase the window to the max size, click on the NAME column header (this will sort all entries on the name field), scroll forward and look for any DLL files that appear in the MWW subdirectories and elsewhere on the system. If the same name appears in two locations DELETE the one that IS NOT in the MWW subdirectory structure.
l-3) Shutdown and reboot, again check MWave. If it does not work at this time I suggest that you forward the problem details so we can pursue with MWave PE.
