Overview:
Your mission-critical business applications can now be installed on IBM PC Servers using the latest high-availability clustering hardware and software available in the PC marketplace. IBM, as part of an Early Adopter's Agreement with Microsoft, already has a PC Server hardware configuration certified(1) with Microsoft Cluster Server. Additional configurations are being tested and will be certified with Microsoft Cluster Server within the next 30 days.
The Cluster Configuration Certified By Microsoft With Microsoft Cluster Server:
o The PC Server 704 and PC Server Advanced Shared-Disk Cluster - two PC Server 704 systems attached to single or multiple MetaStor DS-20E RAID Systems(2) to form a hardware implemented RAID shared-disk cluster capable of storing up to 360GB(3) of data.
Additional Cluster Configurations To Be Certified With Microsoft Cluster Server:
o The PC Server 325 and PC Server Advanced Shared-Disk Rack-Mount Cluster(4) - two PC Server 325 systems attached to single or multiple MetaStor RM-20E RackMount RAID Systems(2) to form a hardware implemented RAID shared-disk cluster capable of storing up to 360GB of data in a MetaStor Rack or industry-standard 19-inch rack enclosure.
o PC Server 330 and PC Server Advanced Shared-Disk Cluster(4) - two PC Server 330 systems attached to single or multiple MetaStor expansion units to form a hardware implemented RAID shared-disk cluster capable of storing up to 360GB of data.
In addition to certified and tested configurations, a PC Server Clustering Solution Planning Service is being announced to facilitate installation of these configurations. The PC Server Clustering Solution Planning Service is a new IBM service that provides a services specialist to assist you with detailed project planning for the installation, customization, and configuration of your IBM PC Server cluster system.
1. This configuration appears on the Windows NT Server Enterprise Edition Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)
2. The MetaStor DS-20E and RM-20E RAID Systems are not IBM products, but are included in the IBM PC Server Compatibility Program and are sold through MetaStor authorized resellers.
3. When referring to hard disk capacity, MB stands for million bytes and GB stands for one thousand million bytes. Total user-accessible capacity may vary depending on operating environments.
4. Configurations planned to be certified within 30 days.

o Appropriate network adapter cards and cabling to support intended clients
o Memory, multiprocessors, and hard disk drive options to support performance and data storage requirements o Certified PC Servers and shared-disk configurations - certified PC Server nodes must contain one disk drive with a minimum of 2GB of space available for storing the network operating system and system software

Certified Cluster Solution:
The following IBM PC Server cluster configuration has been certified with the Microsoft Cluster Server platform:
PC Server 704 and the PC Server Advanced Shared-Disk Cluster:
This two-node configuration consists of two PC Server 704 systems connected to a high-performance, differential SCSI MetaStor RAID subsystem. This configuration provides a hardware implemented RAID 5 solution for high-end cluster solutions. The MetaStor expansion unit is available in deskside enclosures. This configuration can be expanded to support up to four MetaStor controllers in each PC Server connected to four deskside DS-20E and DS-10E enclosures for a total of 360GB of data storage capacity(1). The MetaStor enclosure features high-availability functions such as hot-swap redundant fans and power supplies, and hot-swap hard drives.

(2) Customers installing shared-disk clusters and requiring private interconnect "heartbeat" function, must obtain an Ethernet cluster monitoring cable from an outside source. The cable must be a cross-over type for point-to-point connections. The specifications of this cable are:
Maximum Length: 25 feet
Type: Cross-over twisted pair
Connector: RJ-45 (at each end)
