Home and Away Credit Card Adapter - Installing in Windows for Workgroups
Applicable to: World-Wide
Symptom:
After installing the Home and Away Credit Card adapter (PCMCIA) with Windows for Work Groups (WfWG) setup, it was unable to connect to the network. Diagnostics passed and the modem section worked correctly.
Solution:
It seems as if WfWG doesn't automatically add the PCMCIA statement and the COMPORT statement in the PROTOCOL.INI under Windows. Both must be done for the adapter to work. An omitted comport= line may cause it to default to a conflicting comport, rendering even the Ethernet part of the card useless.
Under the PROTOCOL.INI, there is a bracketed FME_NDIS section.
The setup under this section should be:
DriverName=FME_CS$
comport=2
Also, getting message "could not find c:\windows\system\vfmed.386" before getting into WfWG. You have to manually copy the file from the Home and Away installation disk under the DOS directory to c:\windows\system\ .
