DOS 6.1 Standalone Restore
Applicable to: World-Wide
DOS 6.1 Standalone Restore
IBM systems shipped with preloaded DOS 6.1 do not include DOS diskettes. If for any reason you need to restore a CPBACKUP tape or diskette backup set to a new fixed disk, you will of course need a bootable DOS system with a working CPBACKUP utility.
Users have two options:
- Purchase the DOS/Windows recovery pack from IBM - part no. 8126501
- Prepare a recovery diskette as follows:
1) Format a 1.44MB diskette with the /S option
2) Copy the following files to the diskette
FDISK.COM
FORMAT.COM
CPBACKUP.EXE
CPBACKUP.MSG
CPBH.OVL
CPBX.OVL
CPB1.OVL
CPB2.OVL
CPB3.OVL
CPB4.OVL
CPB5.OVL
FILECHK.OVL
3) To restore to a new disk
- boot the recovery diskette
- run FDISK and partition the disk as required
- format the DOS partition using the /S option
- copy CPBACKUP.EXE to C:\DOS
- copy the .MSG and .OVL files to C:\DOS\SYSTEM
- remove the diskette and reboot from fixed disk
- run CPBACKUP to restore the diskette or tape backup set
